Job summary

Royper Royco LLC is seeking an engineering leader to drive health, delivery, and growth for a software pod in fintech. This hands-on manager will code, mentor, and collaborate with Product and tech leaders from a remote location in the United States.

You will manage 6–8 engineers, own planning and delivery health, and ensure clear ownership and excellent onboarding. A strong background in TypeScript, React, Node.js, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, and AWS is required.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering or engineering management experience.
• Experience leading a team of at least 5 engineers with hiring and performance management.
• Recent hands-on experience shipping production software with TypeScript.
• Backend experience plus familiarity with modern infrastructure and observability tools.
• Experience using AI tools in engineering workflows and AI product development practices.
• Startup or small-company background in fintech or lending software is helpful.
• Work authorization that does not require visa sponsorship.

Job description

Lead the health, delivery, and growth of an engineering pod building software for the mortgage and financial technology sector. This is a hands‑on management role, with time reserved for coding and close collaboration with Product and technical leaders.

What You'll Do

• Manage and support a pod of approximately 6 to 8 engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback, performance management, hiring, and career development.
• Own planning, retrospectives, delivery health, and early communication of execution risks.
• Contribute code regularly, targeting approximately 10 to 20 percent of your time and 1 to 2 pull requests per week.
• Partner with Product Managers and technical leads on priorities, architecture decisions, and cross‑functional alignment.
• Improve engineer onboarding, documentation, and clarity of ownership.

What We're Looking For

• At least 8 years of software engineering or engineering management experience, with a progressive path from individual contributor work into management.
• Demonstrated middle‑management experience leading a team of at least 5 engineers, including hiring and performance management.
• Recent experience shipping production software and coding in an engineering management role, including hands‑on TypeScript experience and substantial backend engineering experience.
• Familiarity with TypeScript, React, Node.js, Express, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, AWS, and modern infrastructure and observability tools.
• Experience using AI tools in engineering workflows and familiarity with AI product development practices such as evaluations, experiment design, and dataset curation.
• Startup or small‑company experience and a background in financial technology or lending software are helpful.
• Must have work authorization that does not require visa sponsorship.

Base salary: $225,000 to $300,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is not available.
