The Customer Order Engineering Manager will lead the Shrewsbury Customer Order Engineering team, ensuring timely and accurate execution of customer orders while maintaining compliance with company standards. This role oversees customer specification reviews, Bills of Materials, and manages engineering data for manufacturing drawings. Key responsibilities include guiding conceptual design, material selection, and testing; configuring products using CAD tools; and providing technical support to internal teams, customers, and vendors. The manager will drive process improvements, develop new engineering tools, maintain documentation, and collaborate with global engineering hubs. Additional duties include mentoring engineers and design staff, coordinating schedules, and supporting product validation and certification compliance.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervise the group in creating engineering data required for developing manufacturing drawings. Determine and verify component dimensions, tolerances, suitable materials and finishes, and prepare necessary supporting calculations. Responsibilities include conceptual engineering, material selection, design and analysis, prototyping, and testing. Ensure products meet established requirements and apply sound engineering practices, considering the cost-effectiveness and quality impact of technology used.

Lead and participate as needed in configuring products using 2D and 3D CAD software and assist in generating detailed drawings and schematics. Assess suitability and generate engineering data for third-party products as needed to meet customer specifications. Support materials management in identifying vendors when required. Provide technical information and guidance to vendors and suppliers of valve components or external services.

Initiate and contribute to the development of new engineering tools and the improvement of workflows and methodologies both locally and in collaboration with the global COE team, including software and system advancements.

Collaborate with Product Managers on product validation to ensure compliance with external certification standards. Offer technical support to other departments and customers, including in-house and field analysis related to product performance issues raised by customers.

Provide technical input to various departments, engineering groups, Project Management, Order Management, and Manufacturing. Respond to Valve Automation product inquiries; supply design information and discuss advantages. Participate in order teams and develop training materials for new technologies and products.

Guide and review the work of less experienced engineers and drafting/design staff, and oversee designers and technicians involved in developing and testing new product concepts. Specify analytical and test equipment, facilities, and techniques as required.

What you'll need:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • 7+ years of engineering experience within industrial manufacturing, automation, flow control, valves, actuators, or related industries.
  • 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams, including coaching, performance management, and talent development.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering mechanics, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and AutoCAD.
