The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all engineering activities related to the design, development, and execution of custom material handling equipment solutions including fabrication/machine building, machine design and automation. This role ensures that engineered products meet customer specifications, regulatory requirements, safety standards, and internal quality expectations while supporting manufacturing, installation, and equipment modernization.
Will train and mentor a small engineering team.
Position is located about 40 miles southwest of Cleveland. This a beautiful area in Ohio located in a small historic and walkable town, close to lakes for fishing and boating.
Key responsibilities
- Evaluate structural, mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing and conducting research programs, applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer and materials.
- Confirm system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods, testing properties.
- Develop mechanical and electromechanical products by studying customer requirements; researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials; soliciting observations from operators and suppliers.
- Develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building assembly and installing components.
- Assures system and product quality by designing testing methods; testing finished products and system capabilities; confirming fabrication, assembly and installation processes.
- Prepares product reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends.
- Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests.
- Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
- Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures; requesting special services.
- Maintains system and product database by writing computer programs and entering data.
- Completes projects by training and guiding technicians.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Skills and Qualifications:

- Prefer a PE but will consider experience
- Ability to be hands on and oversee design work using Autocad.
- Previous engineering management experience in heavy industrial equipment design and installation such has, structural engineering, construction machinery, material handling and conveyors, defense or military equipment, or industrial OEM’s.
- Minimum 5 years previous engineering management experience.
