Job summary

allnex is seeking an Engineering & Maintenance Manager to lead capital projects, support automation and process improvement initiatives, strengthen safety and mechanical integrity programs, and optimize day-to-day plant operations.

This hands-on role suits an engineer who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and wants to make a visible impact on reliability, efficiency, and sustainability across our Kalamazoo site.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • 5-7 years of experience in a Manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in a Chemical Manufacturing environment is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with SAP, LIMS, PI, AutoCAD, DCS/PLCs.

Responsibilities

  • Leads capital projects and manages scope and planning as project manager.
  • Supports automation and process improvement initiatives.
  • Strengthens process safety and mechanical integrity programs.
  • Helps optimize plant operations and day-to-day reliability.
  • Provides leadership through Contractor Management to ensure SHE and engineering standards.
  • Aligns with Operations to troubleshoot chemistry and processes to meet production goals.
  • Drives Continuous Improvement using six sigma, lean, and related methods.
  • Contributes to Quality Management System with SOPs and corrective actions.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures all personal activities adhere to Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Standards and demonstrates Visible Safety Leadership through repeated Plant walkthroughs.
  • Defines scope/planning and serves as project manager for Capital Project improvements as well as manages financial aspects of the site’s capital improvement plan.
  • Leads Automation efforts and responsible for maintaining, upgrading, and fully utilizing control systems as well as providing off‑hours support if needed.
  • Conducts Process Safety Management activities such as management of change, process hazards analyses, pre‑startup safety reviews, etc.
  • Leads Mechanical Integrity program by interacting with 3rd Party engineers and inspectors to schedule and conduct inspections, interpret reports, and drive the execution of follow‑up actions.
  • Manages site Maintenance department including short‑term planning as well as execution of numerous projects and activities during shutdowns and turnarounds.
  • Provides leadership through Contractor Management to ensure work completed meets Allnex SHE and engineering standards.
  • Aligns with Operations personnel and conducts activities such as chemistry and chemical process troubleshooting to aid meeting production goals.
  • Drives Continuous Improvement through tools such as six sigma, lean, workout, etc.
  • Supports Quality Management System efforts through ownership of detailed operating procedures, execution of corrective actions, and participation in internal audit programs.

Required skills and experience

  • 5-7 years of experience in a Manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in a Chemical Manufacturing environment is highly preferred.
  • Detailed, results oriented, and able to thrive in a fast paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and develop plans to execute to satisfy daily operational needs while maintaining focus on longer‑term strategic needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • High level of proficiency in computer applications including, but not limited to Microsoft Office, SAP, LIMS, PI, AutoCAD, DCS/PLCs, etc.
