Job summary

Region 4 Education Service Center is seeking an Assistant Director of Software Engineering in Houston, TX. This role leads the Software Engineering team, guiding architecture, standards, and delivery across DevelopWorks and related products.

You will collaborate with product stakeholders to translate priorities into actionable engineering plans, mentor staff, and ensure high-quality releases while maintaining alignment with strategic goals of the Texas Education Agency and its partners.

Qualifications

Ten years of experience as a software engineer or software engineering professional.
Three years of people management or engineering team leadership experience.
Experience delivering software products through the full lifecycle (SDLC).
Experience with Agile/Scrum practices, sprint planning, code reviews, release management.
Experience with cloud infrastructure, DevOps practices, and modern web architectures.

Responsibilities

Manage the daily operations of the Software Engineering team in coordination with the Director, Product Development.
Own technical architecture, engineering standards, and code quality for DevelopWorks and Region 4 products.
Oversee software code and its coverage.
Translate product requirements into engineering sprints and track delivery progress.
