Responsibilities

• Prepare, organize, and distribute laboratory materials, equipment, and supplies for physics and engineering courses.
• Assist instructors during laboratory activities, demonstrations, projects, and STEM events.
• Build, assemble, modify, service, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory equipment and teaching tools.
• Procure, inventory, organize, and maintain supplies and consumables for laboratory experiments and demonstrations.
• Design and fabricate simple instructional models and laboratory components.
• Maintain safety procedures, chemical handling guidelines, and compliance with regulations.

Compensation:$27.00 per hour, 10 hours per weekTemporary position through 05/15/2027Compensation Type:Non-ExemptEmployment Type:Temporary (Fixed Term)Grade:NE15Position SummaryThe Laboratory Coordinator for Physical Science supports instructional activities in physics, engineering, and related courses by preparing laboratory materials, maintaining equipment and facilities, and assisting faculty and students during hands-on learning experiences. This position ensures safe, organized, and engaging laboratory environment while providing instructional support.Major Duties:· Prepares, organizes, and distributes laboratory materials, equipment, and supplies for physics and engineering courses.· Assists instructors during laboratory activities, demonstrations, projects, and STEM events.· Builds, assembles, modifies, services, troubleshoots, and maintains laboratory equipment, instructional apparatus, and specialized teaching tools used in physical science and engineering activities.· Procures, inventories, organizes, and maintains the supplies and consumable materials required for laboratory experiments, demonstrations, and hands-on learning activities.· Designs and fabricates simple instructional models, prototypes, fixtures, and laboratory components to support classroom and laboratory instruction.· Maintains laboratory equipment, tools, and inventory; coordinate repairs, replacement, and preventative maintenance as needed.· Ensures compliance with laboratory safety procedures, chemical handling guidelines, and applicable regulations.· Supports students by providing guidance on laboratory procedures, equipment operation, engineering design projects, and safe laboratory practices.· Manages storage, organization, and documentation of laboratory resources and consumable supplies.· Assists with the setup, operation, and maintenance of educational technology, data collection devices, makerspace equipment, and STEM learning kits.· Coordinates laboratory schedules and prepare facilities for classes, workshops, outreach events, and special projects.· Maintains records related to inventory, safety inspections, equipment maintenance, and supply usage.· Collaborates with faculty to develop and implement engaging, hands-on learning experiences that support course outcomes and foster student engagement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.· Performs related duties.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS· Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in physics, engineering, technology, STEM education, industrial technology, or a related field.· Experience using hand tools, power tools, equipment maintenance, fabrication techniques, and safety practices.· Experience supporting hands-on STEM instruction, engineering design activities or educational laboratory environments preferred.· Adjunct or Tutoring experience preferred.EEO STATEMENT: San Juan College is dedicated to providing equal employment and educational opportunities without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age, genetic, veteran's status, or on the basis of any other category protected under federal, state and local laws.
