Job summary

Stony Brook University is seeking a CEAS Support Shops Associate to help run instructional labs and fabrication services within the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. You will support manufacturing activities, advise faculty on lab safety, and oversee multiple shop spaces such as MEC 225.

You will assist with student projects, mentor lab participants, and help design and build instructional devices to meet department needs, while ensuring a safe learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of related full-time experience in lieu of degree.
  • Preferred: experience with conventional milling and lathe operations, 3-axis CNC machining, welding, or prototype fabrication.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring students in instructional or research lab settings is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support instruction and oversight of students in laboratory courses; advise on equipment use.
  • Assist in supervising the CEAS Student Machine Shop, Welding Fabrication Shop, and Student Club Storage Area; maintain safety compliance.
  • Assist in Senior capstone design and fabrication projects.
  • Design and build instructional/research devices per lab needs; fabricate test fixtures and demonstration devices.
  • Teach students equipment operation as needed; support other duties as assigned.
