Job summary

Houston City College is seeking a part-time Lab Assistant in Engineering to support lab operations, set up equipment and instructional materials, and organize inventory. You will assist instructors during lab sessions and ensure smooth lab functionality.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, up to 15 hours per week, and the ability to lift 25 lbs. Prior lab experience is preferred; basic software familiarity is a plus.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Word processing, spreadsheet and web page applications.
• Able to work effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds.
• Must be able to receive, organize, maintain, test, and setup lab, equipment, materials, or hardware supplies.
• Familiar with an academic lab setup, configuration, and testing of related equipment.
• Must be able to lift 25 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Assist instructors, as needed, in operating laboratory classes in the department.
• Organize, maintain, and control inventory.
• Assist the instructor or senior lab personnel in preparing lab experiments and demonstrations.
• Comply with all applicable health and safety regulations, policies, and established work practices.
• Maintain lab equipment by cleaning and performing basic repairs.
• Perform clerical assistance for lab maintenance and attendance purposes.
• May assist/tutor students with using lab software and equipment.
