Job summary

Responsibilities

• Assist with finite element modeling and structural analysis.
• Support seakeeping, resistance, propulsion, and stability analyses.
• Contribute to climatology, mooring analysis and piping/electrical system design.
• Assist drafting (2D) and modeling (3D) tasks as needed.
• Collaborate with engineers and clients on project deliverables.

Glosten is seeking student interns to work with our naval architecture, marine engineering, ocean engineering & analysis, and marine construction teams in Seattle, WA and Providence, RI. Glosten is a naval architecture and marine engineering firm that has served the marine industry for over 65 years. As an intern, you will work closely with your group lead and other associates who will help you apply your knowledge and grow your skills on projects that have a significant impact. Our engineering team will help you to roll up your sleeves and apply textbook theory and lab experience to solve real maritime challenges.

We are looking for candidates to work alongside engineering staff to support ongoing projects. Opportunities may include finite element modeling and structural analysis; seakeeping analysis; resistance and propulsion calculations; stability analysis; climatology; mooring analysis; piping system design; electrical load analysis; mechanical system commissioning; 2D drafting; 3D modeling; and other tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

• Strong academic background in one or more of the following disciplines: naval architecture, marine engineering systems, marine electrical systems, marine structures, hydrodynamics, numerical methods, and statistical analysis.
• Mutual respect for coworkers in a collegial atmosphere.
• Motivation to identify and pursue internal and external professional growth opportunities, including areas outside their specific discipline.
• Interest in the marine industry. Glosten is looking for candidates who would consider joining the firm permanently following graduation.
• Excellent communication skills. Communication is a highly valuable skill at Glosten, as we frequently collaborate in inter-disciplinary teams and must convey complex ideas clearly and concisely to clients and other project stakeholders.

Requirements:

• Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. Due to project restrictions, Glosten can only consider applicants with unrestricted access to work in the United States or those eligible for TN visas.
• Students in their senior year or in their final year of a graduate program are preferred.
• Ability to hold a full-time position, 40 hours per week.
• The winter internship is expected to last approximately 8 weeks, starting in January and ending in February. Specific start and end dates can be discussed based on the student's school schedule.
• Ability to work from either Seattle, WA or Providence, RI. We believe that interns will find the greatest value working side-by-side with associates in one of our office locations.
