Job summary

Iaas Lc is seeking an Engineering Intern to work on mobility networks and public spaces in Portland, ME. You will plan, design, and engineer projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and engaging with communities.

The role offers hands-on experience across design phases, use of AutoCAD/MicroStation/ArcMap/QGIS, and a supportive mentorship environment, with typical 40 hours/week and some remote Fridays.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate status in 3rd year or higher of Civil Engineering or related bachelor’s program, or enrollment in related graduate program.
• Ability to quickly learn new concepts, skills, and software programs.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience with or willingness to learn MicroStation or AutoCAD.
• Passion for active transportation.

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing:

• Work as an Engineering Intern on meaningful projects that improve communities in Portland, ME.
• Plan, design, and engineer mobility networks and public spaces including streets, trails, downtowns, campuses, parks, and civic places.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of planners, engineers, and landscape architects.
• Participate in all phases of design from stakeholder outreach and workshops to construction documents and administration.
• Attend key project meetings and site visits.
• Develop skills in analysis, 2D/3D modeling, and illustrative graphics using tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Adobe Suite, ArcMap, and QGIS.
• Engage with clients, communities, and colleagues to help shape streets, parks, and trail systems nationwide.
• Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive culture focused on safe, welcoming, resilient, and equitable design.

About You

The company is looking for candidates who have:

• Undergraduate status in 3rd year or higher of a Civil Engineering or related bachelor’s program, or enrollment in a related graduate program, or recent graduation with a degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Ability to quickly learn new concepts, skills, and software programs.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience with or willingness to learn MicroStation or AutoCAD.
• Passion for active transportation.

Compensation & Benefits

• Paid internship with a targeted salary range of $21.00 to $25.50 per hour.
• Typically 40 hours per week, with four days in the office and option to work from home on Fridays.
