Job summary

IDEX in Linthicum is looking for an intern to enhance technical sales data by creating application guides and simulation tools. Interns will gain hands-on experience in CAD modeling and technical communication while collaborating with cross-functional teams including Sales and Engineering.

  • At least sophomore standing majoring in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • SolidWorks experience preferred.

  • Create CAD models and engineering drawings for prototype components.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure manufacturability and safety of designs.

Job description

Support the Engineering and Sales teams by enhancing technical sales data through the creation of sizing and application guides, simulation tools, and visual materials. The intern will contribute to the development of internal tools and sales literature by generating charts, drawings, and application resources. This role offers hands‑on experience in technical communication, CAD modeling, and potentially programming, while collaborating with cross‑functional teams including Sales, Engineering, and Marketing. Upon completion, the intern will present their project outcomes to the Senior Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and build a mechanical demonstration structure for valve performance comparison.
  • Develop and specify a flow loop for internal valve testing.
  • Create CAD models and engineering drawings for prototype components.
  • Select appropriate materials and components for mechanical builds.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure manufacturability and safety of designs.
  • Assemble and test prototypes; document performance results.
  • Support trade show and customer engagement efforts through technical demonstration.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide engineering documentation.
  • Assist in root cause analysis and validation testing as needed.
  • Create sizing and application guides for valve products.
  • Generate or outsource application tools to simulate valve performance.
  • Develop charts and drawings for internal tools and sales literature.
  • Support the Engineering and Sales teams with technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure accuracy and usability of materials.
  • Utilize SolidWorks to create CAD models and visual assets.
  • Assist in programming or tool development for simulation and analysis.
  • Lead collection of physical data including product weight.
  • Collaborate with external designers to support creation of sales literature.
  • Present project findings and deliverables to leadership.
Qualifications
  • Current college student, with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above, enrolled and in good standing at a Maryland higher education institution.
  • At least sophomore standing by the start of the internship, majoring or minoring in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Design, or a related discipline.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines.
  • SolidWorks experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Compensation & Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $32,500.00 – $48,700.00, depending on experience. This position may be eligible for a performance‑based bonus plan.
