Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh seeks an experienced fabrication technician to teach and supervise the safe use of metalworking equipment. You will manage open lab hours, mentor students in hands-on projects, and provide prototyping design guidance to researchers and clubs.

The role requires strong skills in manual machining, CNC operations, CAD/CAM, and a commitment to safety in a busy academic environment.

Qualifications

7+ years of full-time experience in a professional fabrication facility.
Expertise in manual machining, including lathe and mill setup/operation.
Experience using CNC equipment.
Proficiency with fabrication equipment.
Experience CAD and familiarity with CAM software.
Experience in designing components for fabrication/manufacturing.
Prioritize safety in a busy environment with multiple users.

Responsibilities

Teach and supervise students in safe, effective use of metal machining equipment.
Run open hours for self-service access.
Advise and mentor students on hands-on fabrication activities.
Provide prototyping design advice to students, faculty, and staff.
Maintain hand tools, power tools, mills, lathes, and CNC machines.
Fabricate parts and assemblies to support campus labs.
Cover second shift with some weekends during academic year.
