Job summary

Dahl Consulting seeks a Director of Engineering in Winsted, MN to lead and grow the engineering organization. The role focuses on steering engineering strategy, supporting market expansion, and aligning regulatory compliance with product development in transportation infrastructure.

Ideal candidate has deep experience in manufacturing or engineering leadership, strong DOT and AASHTO knowledge, and a proven ability to guide cross-functional teams toward high-quality, compliant solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or related field) required.
• Progressive engineering leadership experience with team development.
• Experience in B2B product development or specification development.
• Strong knowledge of DOT standards and transportation infrastructure requirements.
• Familiarity with AASHTO standards and their applications.
• Experience supporting customer-facing engineering functions and resolving technical issues.
• CAD proficiency, preferably SolidWorks.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the engineering function to align with growth strategies.
• Mentor and develop a high-performing engineering team through coaching and performance management.
• Lead market-entry initiatives, product development, and regulatory compliance for new markets.
• Represent the organization in trade associations and professional groups.
• Maintain expertise in DOT/AASHTO standards and transportation requirements.
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineering and drafting to integrate production standards.
• Support customer-facing teams with technical guidance on DOT regulations.
• Drive continuous improvement and Lean initiatives across engineering activities.
• Plan projects, allocate resources, and prioritize engineering initiatives.
