Job summary

Canonical is seeking an Engineering Director to own the development and operations of internal software products, including Livepatch. You will oversee three software teams and ensure high engineering quality while growing a global engineering organization.

The role emphasizes leadership, strategic planning, and collaboration with the Commercial Systems leadership team. Remote work is in the EMEA region, with opportunities to travel internationally.

Qualifications

• Exceptional academic track record from high school and university.
• Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about an alternative path.
• Proven ability to drive multiple teams of software engineers to deliver outstanding results.
• Engineering experience in Golang, Python, Java, or distributed integrations.
• Track record of going above-and-beyond to achieve outstanding results.
• Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.
• Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long.

Responsibilities

• Lead multiple engineering teams, from graduates to seniors.
• Develop and mentor engineering managers to maintain Canonical culture.
• Promote engineering practices and processes across teams.
• Set performance goals and manage objectives with direct reports.
• Identify health indicators of teams and take corrective actions.
• Own product development roadmaps for the teams.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and product users.
