The City of Davenport is seeking a skilled CAD Designer who will manage projects, develop CAD design standards, and ensure effective communication with the public and departments. The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor's degree and have significant experience in drafting and project management, contributing to various urban development initiatives.
Administers the plan review process, manages engineering contracts, manages projects, and designs civil work using CAD software.
The City of Davenport offers a comprehensive benefit package. The cost for a family plan for medical, dental, vision and prescription is only $98.61 per month for 2025 and starts on first day of employment.

Develops, implements and monitors CAD design standards and procedures to meet team needs.
Manages CAD configurations, settings and setups for the design team.
Identifies opportunities for improving the design team CAD skills and hosts or provides related training and/or resources.
Designs public construction projects, including work on construction plans, specifications, preliminary and final costs and materials, engineering calculations and computations on volume, strength, capacity, etc.
Identifies opportunities and recommendations for increasing CAD related workflow efficiencies.
Recommends CAD related best practices for solutions to meet design team needs.
Performs project management duties for assigned capital improvement projects.
Prepares and checks grade sheets for paving, sanitary sewer and storm sewer projects.
Coordinates the relocation of utilities. Issues approved grade sheets to contractors and inspectors.
Supplies project information and record information to the public.
Assists in updating records.
Assist in data gathering, citizen response, project management, etc. as needed.
Bachelor’s degree in computer aided design, drafting, or engineering plus four (4) years of progressively responsible drafting and sub professional engineering experience including some project management experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain throughout duration of employment.
Must pass a background check as prescribed by the City of Davenport.
Must reside in Iowa or Illinois within two (2) years of hire and maintain residency throughout the duration of employment.
Comprehensive Knowledge of:
Modern civil engineering practices and principles.
Reviewing complex plans, specifications and engineering drawings for purpose, intent, completeness and constructability.
Interpreting and enforcing City Codes, Ordinances and contracts fairly, with firmness, tact and impartiality.
Analyzing a problem and identifying alternative solutions, and implementing recommendations in support of design, construction, budget and schedule goals.
The principles and practices of planning as they pertain to the design and development of urban facilities and areas.
Common planning, development and redevelopment, regulations, ordinances, and procedures.
Considerable Knowledge of:
Construction inspections, basic principles of survey, and development of projectspecifications.
Materials, workmanship, and methods used in construction projects.
Preparation of an organized set of construction documents.
Considerable Skill in:
Computer aided drafting and design, experience with Civil 3D preferred.
Communicating effectively with others, both verbally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relations with City departments and the public.
Project management.
Working Skill in:
Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
