Job summary

State of West Virginia seeks a professional engineer to support the Office of Abandoned Mine Lands and Reclamation (AML&R) in Charleston or Fayetteville, performing a range of design and engineering duties under limited supervision.

Responsibilities include selecting engineering firms, monitoring design development, site investigations, and coordinating field and office meetings. Requires a bachelor’s in engineering, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
• ABET-accredited degree with listed engineering majors as an alternative.
• Master’s degree can substitute for two years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Select qualified engineering firms to design AML&R projects and meet construction schedules.
• Monitor design plans and specifications for feasibility, economics, conformance, and reclamation standards.
• Assess designs for technical correctness; perform site investigations to evaluate geo-technical conditions.
• Lead field and office meetings; provide technical guidance on design methods and contract procedures.
• Perform engineering computations for design features; analyze hydrologic, hydraulic, earthwork and geotechnical data.
• Maintain detailed workflow reports, progress schedules, and records of design changes and economic impacts.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Engineering

ABET-accredited degree alternative in Civil, Electrical, Electrical Design, Mechanical, Chemical or Mining Engineering Technology
