The Role

Designs major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal. Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development. Makes layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures. Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.

Candidate must be recognized in the field as a subject matter expert for Navy Combat Systems and C4ISR equipment and must demonstrate the ability to independently lead technical integration activities with substantial interaction with Navy engineering stakeholders, including NAVSEA, SUPSHIP, ISEA, and PARMs. Candidate will perform the following: develop, review, and maintain wiring diagrams, cable block diagrams, routing sheets, and system configuration documents in accordance with government‑furnished information, vendor‑furnished information, NAVSEA specifications, contract drawings, and MIL‑Standards; evaluate system compliance and identify technical deficiencies; propose alternate equipment or configurations to meet requirements; adjudicate supplier‑furnished information for translation into shipyard construction products; interface with vendors and Navy representatives to resolve integration issues and clarify technical requirements; support Navy and vendor design reviews; develop engineering change documentation to address obsolescence, design conflicts, and construction or testing discrepancies; and coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure proper resolution of cross‑functional impacts such as foundations, power distribution, HVAC, routing, shock, survivability, corrosion prevention, and E3/TEMPEST. Candidate must be able to represent Electrical Engineering in multi‑discipline design reviews, technical issue meetings, and customer‑facing engagements, providing authoritative integration guidance and ensuring Combat Systems and C4ISR elements are consistently and correctly incorporated across all supported programs.
