Job summary

Ingalls Shipbuilding, part of HII, is seeking a design engineer to develop and refine hull components for the LHA program. You will utilize CAD/CAM tools to draft, analyze, and present design proposals while coordinating with engineering, manufacturing, and planning teams.

The role emphasizes collaboration with Hull design teams, use of CAD software, and adherence to shipbuilding specifications. A related technical degree or equivalent experience is required, with additional design experience

• High School Diploma or GED with 5 years of experience or an Associate degree with 1 year experience.
• Technical degree with related discipline plus experience is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.
• Uses CAD/CAM/CATIA tools for design work and prepares rough layouts and sketches for proposals.
• Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups to ensure ease of manufacture and proper specifications.

The Role

Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments. This role is in Field Engineering Hull which primarily supports hull for the LHA program.

Must Have

• High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of experience
• -or-
• Associates degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 1 year experience

Nice to Have

Excellent verbal skills, competent in software (Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Shipconstructor, ARAS and NavisWorks). Familiar with ship specifications and a working knowledge of ship hull construction. LHA 8 Design Experience preferred.
