Job summary

South Jersey Industries offers an Ignite Internship Program for an 11-week summer experience in a hybrid work environment. Interns will network within the SJI community and gain visibility across departments.

The internship places you with the SJIU, Utility Shared Services team, including Emergency Preparedness, Compliance (PHMSA and NJBPU), DOT Compliance, Standards, QA, Records, GIS and CAD/Drafting, providing mentorship and hands-on project work.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree with a Fall 2026 or later graduation
• Rising Junior or Senior welcome to apply

Responsibilities

• Support Emergency Preparedness, Compliance, DOT Compliance, Standards, QA, Records, GIS and CAD/Drafting on various projects
• Assist in keeping Company Standards current with Federal, State and local requirements
• Review standards and recommend changes
• Draft basic Standard Details
• Review new materials and tools for the company
• Assist in preparing reports and analyses on transmission and distribution compliance and QA activities
• Participate in meetings to understand reporting and data requirements
• Assist in planning drills and exercises related to Gas Utility practices
• Review Emergency Preparedness documents for compliance with codes and best practices
• Perform field audits and inspections to ensure compliance with manuals and regulations
• Present results of work and interpret data to stakeholders
• Examine documents for completeness and resolve discrepancies with originators
• Map utilities for land development and GIS projects; generate GIS products
• Develop, test and implement GIS applications and maintain GIS databases
