Job summary

American Tower offers a Co-Op experience in which students explore civil- or structural-focused engineering within a corporate setting. Interns rotate into core structural engineering with analysis or civil engineering, gaining hands-on experience with structural analysis software and guidance from licensed professionals and senior engineers.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in a 4–5-year college Engineering degree program required, with a civil and/or structural engineering focus preferred.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred.
• Proficient with computer software programs, including AutoCAD and Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
• Ability to work independently.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively.
• Ability to work with different functional groups and levels of employees to effectively and professionally achieve results.
• Strong organizational skills; ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Work within existing processes to correctly open analyses projects.
• Perform structural analyses and generate corresponding reports.
• Confirm accuracy of modification drawings.
• Answer various structure-related inquiries from internal and external sources.
• Perform civil site analyses and generate road, grading, and stormwater designs.
• Support the generation of construction drawings showing antenna equipment placement.
• Other duties as assigned.

In the structural internship, the Engineering Intern performs structural analyses of cell phone towers and prepares formal, written reports detailing tower capacity and listing recommendations for modifications needed to increase capacity. In the civil internship, the Engineering Intern will complete raw-land site development using Civil 3D, stormwater analyses, access road remediation and repair, minor structural calculations and letters related to project permitting.
