Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Designer to create, revise, and maintain engineering drawings and sketches using CAD. The role includes documenting facilities and equipment, gathering information from drawings, field notes, and site visits, and performing calculations.

You will work with other Company organizations to ensure safe, efficient execution, and assist in training staff on the position's basic skills. Travel and overtime may be required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in applied science (AAS) CAD or related engineering tech; or equivalent experience/education.
• Four (4) years of electric utility and/or related drafting experience if no AAS.
• Overtime, call-out overtime, and shift work may be required; travel >10%.

Responsibilities

• Create, revise and maintain engineering drawings and sketches.
• Support document creation for facilities, equipment, and related records.
• Obtain information from verbal, sketches, field notes, vendors, and site visits.
• Perform mathematical calculations to accomplish tasks.
• Operate CAD software and Microsoft Office proficiently.
• Coordinate with other Company organizations to ensure safe, efficient work.
• Read vendor prints and incorporate information into drawings.
• Assist in training AEP employees in basic skills of the position.
• Promote safety programs and comply with corporate policies.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
