The City of North Las Vegas is hiring an Engineering Associate (Utilities) to plan, review, and design essential water and wastewater infrastructure. This role involves hands-on hydraulic modeling and utility project expertise within a dynamic municipal environment.

The position supports a 4-day, 9-hour work week (36 hours) and participates in an internal Teamster eligibility process with a non-probationary status; salary ranges are published and starting pay depends on education and experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of progressively complex and responsible related work experience with knowledge and familiarity in the theories and principals for application to practical problems and solutions.
  • Must possess a valid Nevada state driver’s license, or have the ability to obtain, and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
  • Possession of State of Nevada Registered Engineer Certificate (PE). If licensed in another state, registration in the state of Nevada within one (1) year of hire/reclassification
  • Prefer Professional Traffic Operations Engineer certification (Traffic Option Only)

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates and performs engineering work, including reviewing land development submittals, conducting feasibility studies, performing design work for construction projects and environmental/conservation programs.
  • Performs professional level engineering planning and design for a variety of projects.
  • Possesses hands-on experience in hydraulic modeling and design of water distribution and wastewater collection systems including pump stations, storage reservoirs, well sites, lift stations, and both water and sewer mains.

An Engineering Associate (Utilities) is an essential member of our team and we invite you to apply and help contribute to CNLV’S growing success!

This posting will create a non-probationary internal Teamster eligibility list and fill 1 vacancy for this classification. The current vacancy is in the Utilities department. The eligibility list will be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification, for up to one hundred eighty (180) days. Non-probationary Teamster team members successfully completing the selection process will be placed on the eligibility list.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

Pay Considerations –The salary range for the position is $83,648.24 - $119,500.42 . Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement. Starting salary is dependent on education, qualifications, and experience

  • Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day (36-hour work week), Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 5:00pm at North Las Vegas City Hall.
THE ROLE

Plans, coordinates and performs engineering work, including reviewing various land developmentsubmittals, conducting engineering feasibility studies, performing design work for construction projectsand environmental/conservation programs; performs professional level engineering planning, and design for a variety of projects.

Possesses hands‑on experience in the hydraulic modeling and design of water distribution and wastewater collection systems, including pump stations, storage reservoirs, well sites, lift stations, and both water and sewer mains. The ideal candidate will also have prior experience working on a variety of construction and utility projects, bringing practical knowledge to complex infrastructure challenges.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of progressively complex and responsible related work experience with knowledge and familiarity in the theories and principals for application to practical problems and solutions.
  • Must possess a valid Nevada state driver’s license, or have the ability to obtain, and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record.

SELECTION PROCESS

  • The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. The selection process will include (dates to be determined).

  • Oral Board Interview (Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%)
  • Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history checks via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. **IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete.

Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.
