As an Engineering Assistant 1/2/3, you will perform routine architectural/engineering assignments or assist higher-level architects/engineers with a wide variety of activities. Work involves well-defined assignments or fragments of more complex projects and is reviewed on a regular basis and upon completion.
This position serves as part of a management team that oversees Statewide Public Facilities improvement projects through planning/scoping, design, and construction phases. This position functions as the Project Engineer overseeing construction projects of varying size and complexity under the supervision of a Project Manager. Responsibilities include monitoring construction activities; coordination with contractors and design professionals; scheduling and budgeting; preparation of project documentation and reports; and oversight of work performed by contractors.
This position is based in Anchorage or Fairbanks (depending on where the selected candidate resides); however, project location may vary and temporary relocation to remote communities for the duration of a construction project can happen.
This flex position allows for growth and increased responsibility as experience is obtained.

To be successful in this position, the selected applicant will possess the following core competencies:
Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of engineering and their practical applications.
Knowledge of the physical, engineering, and experimental equipment and operational characteristics of facilities, and safety and equipment development designed to support aerospace activities.
Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain facilities such as buildings, transportation systems, water and sanitary systems, and other public works systems.
Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbale cues, and responds appropriately.
Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
Valid Driver's License is required.
May require occasional travel to project sites. This may include flying to remote communities in small aircraft with infrequent need for overnight stays with minimal accommodations. Requires site inspections which may occur in adverse weather conditions.

Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from a postsecondary institution accredited by ABET. Or: A bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from a postsecondary institution not accredited by ABET. AND An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) examination.
An applicant who will obtain within nine months a bachelor's degree from an institution accredited by ABET, with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying, will qualify to apply. An applicant qualifying under this option may receive a job offer conditional upon completion of the degree requirement within nine months and may begin work AFTER obtaining and showing proof of the required degree.Engineering-In-Training or Flex Engineering Assistant 1/Engineering Assistant 2 positions will be identified by the employing department.
