Job summary

The Palms at Plantation is seeking an Engineering Assistant – Senior Living in Plantation, FL, to maintain the building and grounds and support various systems. The role includes inspections, work orders, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and direct collaboration with residents and vendors to keep the community safe and well-maintained.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years of related maintenance experience, basic knowledge of building systems, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • 3+ years of related maintenance or engineering experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of general maintenance, machinery, tools, and repair techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliances, fire panels, and other building systems preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections of the building and grounds to identify maintenance and repair needs.
  • Assist with completing maintenance and repair work orders in a timely manner.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on community equipment and systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair general maintenance issues and assist outside contractors with repairs as needed.
  • Perform basic repairs on household and commercial appliances, including dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, ranges, and microwave ovens.
  • Assist with maintaining electrical systems, phone systems, fire panels, emergency response systems, and other building equipment.
  • Help maintain resident apartments and common areas, including minor repairs, touch-ups, and general upkeep.
  • Assist with landscaping and grounds maintenance, including watering, trimming, edging, weeding, pruning, mulching, and general cleanup.
  • Keep sidewalks, entrances, paved areas, and outdoor spaces clean, safe, and attractive.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness procedures and maintenance-related emergencies as needed.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and organized manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Engineering or community leadership.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Dependable, organized, and able to prioritize multiple maintenance needs.
  • Professional and courteous when interacting with residents, families, team members, vendors, and contractors.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, reach, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, grasp, and perform fine manipulation throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and exert up to 50 pounds of pressure unassisted.
