Job summary

What You Will Do
  • Oversee all physical plant operations for the community, including engineering, maintenance, and safety programs in compliance with all applicable rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Maintain and effectively execute work order systems and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Monitor the condition of the building and grounds and plan for necessary maintenance, repairs, supplies, and equipment.
  • Coordinate with designers, architects, engineers, vendors, maintenance providers, and contractors as needed.
  • Administer the Property/Community Risk Management Procedure Plan.
  • Direct staff project assignments while maintaining budget expectations, schedules, quality standards, and safety compliance.
  • Develop, maintain, and periodically update department policies, procedures, and job descriptions.
  • Train and orient staff on community policies and procedures.
  • Develop and monitor departmental budgets, forecasts, and staffing plans to ensure proper utilization of resources.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness, disaster response planning, and community safety initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position reports directly to the Executive Director and is expected to perform independently while exercising sound judgment and leadership. The Director of Engineering supervises and directs the work of Engineering and Maintenance team members.

Why You Are Qualified

The ideal candidate will have:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in physical plant operations, preferably within senior living, healthcare, hospitality, or a related environment.
  • Experience or training in electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems required.
  • Current EPA Certification or the ability to obtain certification within the first 6 months of employment required.
  • Working knowledge of machinery, tools, repair techniques, and general maintenance operations.
  • Experience with electrical systems, phone systems, fire panels, emergency response systems, and disaster preparedness.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, reaching, kneeling, and lifting up to 25 pounds unassisted.
