Job Summary

The Engineer VI – Engineering Manager will build and manage a bridge group in the Chicago office, applying current principles and practices of engineering to resolve crucial issues and recommend new practices. The role involves working on programs of limited complexity and scope while staying informed of new developments that affect the organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead a technical railroad structures discipline team for the Chicago office
  • Serve as the technical specialist for the organization in applying advanced concepts, principles, and methods for railroad structural projects and tasks
  • Keep informed of new developments and requirements affecting the organization to recommend changes in programs or applications
  • Interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments
  • Other duties as assigned or required to meet business needs
Qualifications
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    • Proficient with electronic communication (e‑mail, text) and standard office applications (Microsoft Office Suite)
    • Possess advanced oral and written communication skills
    • Represent the organization and maintain liaison with individuals and related organizations
  • Required Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program
    • 10+ years of prior experience
  • Preferred Education & Experience:
    • Master’s degree or equivalent
    • Engaged in life‑long learning to stay current with contemporary issues
    • Established relationships with local and regional clients – CTA, Metra, IDOT, CDOT, Illinois Tollway
    • Business development skills
    • In‑depth knowledge of industry standards and guidelines
  • Additional Qualifications, Certifications, Etc.:
    • Professional Engineer (PE) in Illinois
    • Structural Engineer (SE) in Illinois
    • Member of professional practice organization, national board member or officer, national technical or policy committee member
