Job description

Engineer Vehicle Tools – Datalogging, Fleet Analytics & Tools Management

This role sits at the intersection of vehicle engineering, data analytics, and fleet operations. You will own the health and performance of our Intrepid CS-based datalogging systems across the engineering vehicle fleet, build tools and dashboards that turn raw fleet data into actionable insight, and manage the shared engineering tools (Vector licenses, portable hardware) that keep test programs running smoothly. This is a hands‑on role for someone who is equally comfortable debugging a CAN network, writing a Python script to mine a data pool for anomalies, and coordinating logistics across multiple test sites.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Partner with cloud and data platform teams to build dashboards and metrics covering both fleet logging health and the logged vehicle data itself.
  • Develop diagnostics and trend analyses that characterize software and system behavior in the field to inform program development and control system tuning.
  • Build internal tools/scripts to mine fleet data pools for issues or trends that may not be readily apparent to end users.
Fleet Logging Operations
  • Perform regular checks of fleet logging status; proactively identify and report issues to minimize data downtime.
  • Manage fleet-wide logger logistics, including unit delivery, rework, part swaps, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Conduct initial triage on non-functioning loggers and elevate to the appropriate point of contact for resolution.
  • Support additional/bespoke instrumentation requests driven by evolving vehicle testing needs.
Logging Solution Development
  • Support development of external logging solutions for upcoming build phases, coordinating compatibility, integration, and prove-out as vehicle builds mature and harness designs evolve.
  • Create setup and troubleshooting guides/documentation for external datalogging systems.
Tools & Asset Management
  • Maintain and track shared engineering tool licenses (e.g., Vector CANoe/CANape/vSpy) to ensure availability across teams.
  • Track portable equipment locations, usage, and lifecycle across the fleet.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field; or equivalent hands‑on technical experience.
  • 2+ years of relevant hands‑on experience with vehicle data acquisition/CAN‑based systems.
  • Strong proficiency with CAN diagnostic and log analysis tools for embedded systems, such as CANalyzer, CANape, CANoe, and MATLAB.
  • Experience with vehicle datalogging tools such as Intrepid CS, Vehicle Spy, and associated cloud/server connectivity options.
  • Working knowledge of automotive embedded systems, including chassis control ECUs, body modules, thermal management, braking, steering, and powertrain.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and cross‑functionally.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with EV platforms and modern vehicle software architecture.
  • Scripting/programming experience (e.g., Python, SQL) for data analysis and tool development.
  • Familiarity with cloud/data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Databricks) used for large-scale fleet data.
  • Experience managing shared software licenses or engineering equipment pools.
  • Experience creating technical documentation or training materials for cross‑functional teams.
