Electric Power Systems, Inc. is seeking an Engineer Technician III or IV to perform fieldwork and office tasks, laying out, staking, and documenting distribution extensions for Matanuska Electric Association in Anchorage. You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate installations and compliance with NEC standards.

The role requires strong plans interpretation, cost estimation, and coordination, with travel as needed and a commitment to safety and quality in rugged Alaskan terrain.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with Engineering Coordinators, Member Relations, Operations, and Finance for close-out information.
• Prepare permit requests and land services documentation with Land Services Section.
• Prepare cost estimates for all levels of single-phase line extensions and services.
• Create work orders and related documentation for line extensions and services.
• Use sag charts and field data to determine clearances and pulling tension for underground installations.
• Perform field staking for clearance and facility installation and provide as-built information.

The Role

We're seeking an Engineer Technician III or IV to perform fieldwork and office work in laying out, staking, and writing up distribution extensions and improvements for Matanuska Electric Association.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with Engineering Coordinators, Member Relations, Operations, and Finance and Accounting in coordinating close-out information and other activities
• Work with the Land Services Section to prepare requests for applicable permits and other land services documentation
• Prepare cost estimates for all levels of single-phase line extensions and services
• Prepare work order documentation, including staking sheets, construction drawings, clearing diagrams, job tickets, letters of agreement, material pick lists, closeout documents, etc. for all levels of line extensions and services
• Use sag charts, staking tables, and software as needed to determine clearances and max pulling tension on underground installation
• Perform field staking for clearing and facility installation for single-phase line extensions and services. Determines relationship of plat to geographic monuments through use of field measurements and/or prepared surveys and provides as- built information on Association facilities
• Inspect meter bases, other service entrance equipment, and construction of single-phase line extensions for standards compliance and works with the members electrician to resolve any issues prior to issuing associated work orders to construction
• Perform the essential functions of the position in a safe and efficient manner

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• A valid driver's license and a driving record that is insurable by the company's insurance carrier
• Deep understanding of National Electrical Code (NEC)
• Ability to interpret building plans, blueprints, and line schematics
• Experienced in surveying, designing distribution routes, line extensions, and estimating costs
• Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
• Exceptional interpersonal, written, and strong verbal communication skills are vital to the success of this role
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, display initiative, and able to work independently
• Capability to walk rugged Alaskan terrain during outdoor field inspections
• Willingness and ability to travel as needed

Preferred Technical Assets

• Vocational training in math, surveying, drafting, and engineering sciences
• Prior industry internships or experience directly within an electric utility
• Professional history showing progressive development in field responsibility
• Knowledge of electric utility distribution and secondary specifications
