Job summary

Saber Power Services, a Houston-based electrical power system services firm, seeks an Engineering Technician II to support substation design and documentation. You will aid engineers, prepare drawings, and help with field data collection to ensure accurate project deliverables.

The role requires technical education in electrical engineering technology and hands-on drafting experience, with strong attention to detail and effective communication within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in electrical engineering technology or related field preferred.
• 3+ years of relevant engineering technician or power industry experience preferred.
• Experience with electrical power systems, substations, transmission, or renewable energy projects preferred.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or other engineering design software.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and engineering plans.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple assignments.

The Engineering Technician II provides technical support to the Engineering Department in the development, preparation, and execution of electrical power system and substation projects. This position works closely with engineers, designers, project managers, and field personnel to prepare engineering documentation, drawings, calculations, equipment information, and project deliverables.

The Engineering Technician II performs assignments with moderate supervision and is expected to apply established engineering practices, standards, and procedures to complete technical work accurately and efficiently. The position may support multiple projects and assist with resolving technical issues during design and construction.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist engineers and designers with the development of electrical power system and substation designs.
• Prepare, modify, and maintain engineering drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, equipment layouts, and related documentation.
• Review drawings and technical documents for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with project requirements.
• Assist with electrical design calculations, equipment sizing, cable and conduit layouts, grounding systems, and other engineering-related tasks.
• Compile and organize equipment specifications, vendor information, data sheets, drawings, and technical documentation.
• Assist engineers with equipment and material selections based on project specifications and applicable standards.
• Support the development and maintenance of bills of materials, equipment schedules, cable schedules, and other engineering project documentation.
• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, standards, and technical documentation.
• Assist with field investigations, site walks, equipment surveys, and collection of field data as required.
• Work with field personnel and construction teams to identify and resolve design or documentation issues.
• Incorporate engineering and field changes into drawings and project documentation.
• Assist with reviewing vendor and subcontractor drawings and documentation.
• Support preparation of engineering packages for construction, testing, commissioning, and project closeout.
• Perform basic engineering calculations and technical analyses within established procedures and under the direction of an engineer.
• Assist in identifying discrepancies between engineering documents, field conditions, equipment, and project specifications.
• Maintain organized project files and ensure engineering documentation is properly controlled and updated.
• Communicate technical information effectively with engineers, designers, project managers, vendors, and field personnel.
• Follow company engineering procedures, project requirements, applicable codes, and industry standards.
• Support multiple projects and meet established project schedules and deadlines.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Associate degree, technical degree, or equivalent technical education in electrical engineering technology, drafting/design, or a related field preferred.
• 3+ years of relevant engineering technician, electrical design, drafting, or power industry experience preferred.
• Experience supporting electrical power systems, substations, transmission, distribution, industrial electrical systems, or renewable energy projects preferred.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or other engineering design and drafting software.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, equipment drawings, and engineering plans.
• Working knowledge of electrical power system equipment and components.
• Familiarity with applicable electrical codes, standards, and industry practices.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments in a project-driven environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
