Job summary

Enbridge Gas Utah is seeking a Senior Engineer for its Engineering Technical Services team in Utah. You will independently resolve complex engineering challenges, lead technical initiatives, and coordinate across collaborators while influencing standards, design practices, and operational outcomes.

The role requires a ABET-accredited engineering degree, a PE license, 6+ years of related experience, and strong knowledge of pipeline design standards. Hybrid work options are available.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree (civil or geotechnical preferred).
• 6+ years of related paid experience in engineering design, build, standards development, and frontline operations technical support.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or ability to obtain one.
• Advanced knowledge of pipeline engineering and key industry standards (DOT PHMSA, ASME, API).
• Proven ability to independently solve complex technical problems with strong analytical and engineering judgment.
• Effective communicator and collaborator, able to influence stakeholders and convey technical concepts.
• Strong project management and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex engineering activities including standards development, specifications, pipeline and station design, HDD design, geotechnical evaluations, and technical assessments.
• Provide senior technical expertise to operations, ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Resolve complex technical issues independently, advising on design or standards deviations as needed.
• Coordinate engineering requirements across operations, construction, and asset management teams.
• Drive standards and specification management programs for alignment across the business.
• Support high-impact capital and maintenance projects, including risk assessments, asset integrity reviews, and mentoring of technical teams.

Enbridge Gas Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho (UWI) is seeking a Senior Engineer for our Engineering Technical Services team, a hub dedicated to ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient natural gas systems across the UWI region. In this position, you will independently resolve complex engineering challenges, lead technical initiatives, and coordinate work across various collaborators while influencing standards, design practices, and operational outcomes.

What You Will Do

• Lead complex engineering activities including standards development, specifications, design of pipelines and stations, design reviews, Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) design, geotechnical evaluations, and technical assessments.
• Provide senior technical expertise to operations, ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Resolve complex technical issues independently, recommending design or standards deviations as needed.
• Integrate and coordinate engineering requirements across operations, construction, and asset management teams.
• Drive standards and specification management programs, ensuring alignment and consistency across the business.
• Support high-impact capital and maintenance projects, including risk assessments, asset integrity reviews, stakeholder communication, and mentoring of technical teams.

Who You Are

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program based on the accreditation year; preference is given to civil, or geotechnical engineering fields.
• 6+ years of related paid experience in engineering design, engineering build, standards development, and frontline operations technical support within manufacturing, energy, consulting, or similar industries.
• Holds a Professional Engineering (P.E.) license or can obtain one.
• Advanced knowledge of pipeline engineering, design practices, and key industry standards (Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration [DOT PHMSA], American Society Mechanical Engineers [ASME], American Petroleum Institute [API]).
• Proven ability to independently solve complex technical problems, applying strong analytical and sound engineering judgment.
• Effective communicator and collaborator, able to influence stakeholders and convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong project manager who uses analytical abilities to problem solve while showing a proven ability to collaborate cross functionally and influence partners

The Following Are Considered Assets

• Experience in natural gas utilities, pipeline operations, or similar energy sectors
• Experience with standards development and specification management
• Knowledge of HDD, geotechnical engineering, and asset integrity practices is a plus but is not required
• Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers or coordinating technical teams

Physical Requirements Include But Are Not Limited To

Requires grasping, kneeling, lifting objects up to 20 pounds, reaching overhead, and performing repetitive movements. Tasks include typing, sitting, standing, and visual activities such as viewing screens, recognizing color codes, and reading fine print. Hearing ability, prolonged computer use, and the ability to work in tight spaces are also necessary.

Coordinate thoughts and ideas into clear terminology. Prioritize and coordinate a short-term work schedule. Complete routine forms and compose letters, outlines, memoranda, and basic reports. Communicate with individuals via telephone and other channels.

• Standard business hours with availability for after-hours and on-call support as needed.
• Moderate travel. A valid driver’s license, ability to travel, and maintenance of a responsible driving record is required which will be verified before hire.
