Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a qualified engineer for avionics hardware integration and testing. Role involves working with Flight Management Computers, navigation systems, and multiple sensor suites in a fast-paced lab and on aircraft for ground tests.

Requirements include a STEM degree, 2+ years of related experience (or 5+ years for Principal), and an Interim Secret clearance with potential to obtain final clearance. Travel up to 25% may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline and at least 2 years of related engineering experience; or a Master’s degree with no related experience.
  • For a Principal Engineer: Bachelor’s with 5+ years, or Master’s with 3+ years, or PhD with 1+ year.
  • Experience with Flight Avionics hardware, networking protocols (1553, Ethernet, RS-232, ARINC-429) and digital computer architecture.
  • U.S. Government Interim Secret Security Clearance required at application; ability to obtain final Secret clearance and SAP.

Position Details

Relocation assistance may be available. The role requires a U.S. Government Interim Secret Security Clearance to apply and to start the role. Travel required: up to 25% of the time.

Responsibilities
  • Integrate and test prime mission equipment—including Flight Management Computers, Cockpit Avionics, Navigation Systems, Threat Detection Sensors (Passive/Active), and Mission Management Equipment—into laboratories and on aircraft for ground support testing.
  • Manage suppliers, review and analyze supplier design data, define functional test requirements, and support test execution.
  • Create detailed equipment requirements in NGAS specification document format for product procurement.
  • Prepare NGAS procurement documents such as Price and Delivery Information Requests (PDIR), Source Control Drawings (SCD) and Supplier Statements of Work (SSOW).
  • Support hardware component analysis concerning maintainability, reliability, safety, and diminishing material sources.
  • Develop hardware test processes and procedures following NGAS test procedure guidelines and templates.
  • Collaborate closely with system engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test engineers in a fast‑paced lab and ground/flight testing environment.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline and at least 2 years of related engineering experience; or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline with no related engineering experience.
  • For a Principal Engineer: Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of related experience, or Master’s with at least 3 years, or PhD with at least 1 year.
  • Experience with fundamentals of Flight Avionics hardware, networking protocols (1553, Ethernet, RS‑232, ARINC‑429) and digital computer architecture (single board computers, FPGA, NAS).
  • U.S. Government Interim Secret Security Clearance required at application; ability to obtain a final Secret clearance and Special Program Access (SAP).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Agile Scrum and Jira.
  • Trade studies: documenting subsystem architectures, analyzing performance, and evaluating Technology Readiness Level (TRL) with respect to supplier products.
  • Experience building supplier evaluation criteria and conducting technical evaluations.
  • Diagnostic tool experience (Linux, PUTTY, Tera‑term) for flight avionics hardware failure analysis.
  • Knowledge of Aircraft Navigation, Flight Plans, and integrating GPS solutions into aircraft.
  • Experience with COTS electronics integration and Board Support Package (BSP) designs into military systems.
  • Familiarity with authentication and data encryption methods at the data‑link or network layer.
  • Potential for obtaining TS/SCI clearance and top‑level SAP.
Salary and Benefits

Primary Level Salary: $79,300.00 – $118,900.00.
Secondary Level Salary: $98,400.00 – $147,600.00.
Additional compensation may include overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and for senior positions long‑term incentives.
