Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Engineer/Principal Engineer Electronics - Avionics in Melbourne, FL. You will work with Avionics Cognizant Engineers to design, develop, and test electronic equipment for the Business Unit.

The role requires hands-on lab work, collaboration across disciplines, and the ability to obtain/maintain a Secret clearance. Onsite in Melbourne, FL with potential travel and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline with 2 years of related engineering experience; or Master’s with 0 years.
  • Experience in Flight Avionics hardware fundamentals and networking standards (e.g., 1553, Ethernet).
  • U.S. Government Interim Secret Security Clearance to apply and to start; ability to obtain final Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate and test Prime Mission Equipment into laboratories and aircraft for ground tests.
  • Manage suppliers and define functional test requirements including acceptance and system integration.
  • Create detailed equipment requirements in specification documents for procurement.
  • Prepare procurement documents (PDIR, SCD, SSOW) supporting processes.
  • Support hardware maintainability, reliability, and safety analyses.
  • Develop hardware test processes and procedures per NGAS guidelines.
  • Collaborate with system engineers, hardware designers, and test engineers in a fast-paced environment.

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Engineer/Principal Engineer Electronics - Avionics to join our team of qualified individuals in our Avionics Department. This role is located onsite in Melbourne, FL.

The selected candidate will work directly with the Avionics Department Cognizant Engineers to research, design, develop, and test a variety of electronic equipment and avionics systems for the Business Unit.

Essential Functions
  • The Integration and Test of Prime Mission Equipment (Flight Management Computers, Cockpit Avionics, Navigation Systems, Threat Detection Sensors (Passive/Active), and Mission Management Equipment) into Laboratories and on Aircraft for Ground Support Testing.
  • Manage suppliers, review and analysis of supplier design data, definition of functional test requirements including acceptance, qualification, and system integration, and support test execution.
  • The candidate will be capable of the creation of detailed equipment requirements in Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems specification documents format for product procurement.
  • Prepare NGAS procurement documents such as Price and Delivery Information Request (PDIR), Source Control Drawings (SCD) and Supplier Statements of Work (SSOW) in support of procurement processes.
  • The support of Hardware Component analysis as it pertains to product maintainability, reliability, safety and diminishing material sources.
  • The creation of hardware test processes and procedures using Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems test procedure document guidelines and template.
  • The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels.
  • Candidate must be comfortable working both in a lab environment as well as support Ground/Flight testing and be able to collaborate closely with system engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test engineers.
Basic Qualifications
  • Educational/Experience Requirements:
    • Engineer (LV2): Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 2 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of related engineering experience.
    • Principal Engineer (LV3): Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline and 1 years of related engineering experience.
  • Must have experience in the fundamentals of Flight Avionics hardware and associated elements and networking standards/protocols (e.g., 1553, Ethernet, RS-232, ARINC-429).
  • Must have experience in Digital Computer architecture and associated elements: single board computers, networking components, Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA), and Network Attached Storage (NAS) solutions.
  • Must have a U.S. Government Interim Secret Security Clearance to apply and to start the role, with the ability to obtain and maintain a final U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance and Special Program Access (SAP) within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the Company to meet its business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Agile Scrum and Jira Experience.
  • Trade studies, documenting subsystem architectures, analyzing performance, and evaluating Technology Readiness Level (TRL) with regard to supplier current and future products offerings.
  • Building supplier evaluation criteria and experience in conducting technical evaluations, documenting results and selection.
  • Experience using Diagnostic tools (Linux SW, PUTTY, Tera-term) to conduct analysis of Flight Avionics Hardware Failures.
  • Experience with Aircraft Navigation and Flight Plans. Experience with how a Flight Navigation solution / GPS is integrated into an Aircraft.
  • Experience with integration of COTS electronics and Board Support Package (BSP) designs into military systems.
  • Experience with authentication and data encryption methods, to include securing communications at either the data-link or network layer.
  • Have the ability to get a TS/SCI clearance and to attain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR/SAP).
Salary Range

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
