Job summary

Naval Nuclear Laboratory in Idaho Falls seeks an engineering-focused professional to advance spent nuclear fuel dry storage operations. You will help develop controls, procedures, and tooling while ensuring alignment with safety and regulatory requirements.

The role involves providing engineering support during execution, designing containment and safety equipment, and driving process improvements with environmental characterization activities as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related technical/engineering/science field with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
• Master's degree in a related field with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
• Doctorate degree in a related field.
• Currently an Advanced Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Responsibilities

• Develop engineering controls, work procedures and supporting documents for dry storage of spent nuclear fuel.
• Provide engineering support to ensure compliance with engineered work products and updates to procedures.
• Design tooling, radiological containment, and safety equipment for spent fuel packaging production.
• Identify and implement process improvements.
• Develop plans and reports and perform environmental characterization and investigations as required by local and federal programs.

In this role, you'll support advancing spent nuclear fuel dry storage operations through innovative technical solutions, precision‑engineered tools, and smarter, safer processes. You'll drive meaningful improvements, enhance safety measures, and help shape the future of fuel storage operations – while ensuring every step aligns with local and federal regulatory requirements.

• Develop the engineering controls, work procedures and supporting documents necessary to support dry storage of spent nuclear fuel.
• Provide engineering support as work is executed to ensure compliance with engineered work products, including any updates or changes needed for work execution procedures.
• Design special tooling, radiological containment, and safety equipment needed to support spent fuel packaging production.
• Identify and implement process improvements.
• Develop plans and reports and perform environmental characterization and investigation activities pursuant to local and federal regulatory programs.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
• Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
• Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field.
• Currently an Advanced Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Preferred Skills

• Strong technical writing skills.

Pay Range

$86,100.00 - $134,600.00 annually. Salary information is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
