Job summary

Jobtailor in North Carolina is seeking a talented nuclear engineer to join our analytical team. You will lead evaluations in areas such as anticipated operational occurrences, transients without scram, and thermal-hydraulic analyses for BWRs, supporting safe and efficient plant operation.

The role requires a BS in engineering, 2+ years of nuclear experience or a relevant MS, and skills in C#/FORTRAN/PYTHON. You will prepare technical reports and communicate findings to customers with precision.

Qualifications

  • BS in engineering; nuclear focus preferred.
  • 2+ years nuclear experience or Master’s degree.
  • Eligibility to access export-controlled information.
  • Experience with BWR core simulation and thermal-hydraulic codes.
  • Background in power or process plant thermal hydraulics.
  • Knowledge of nuclear engineering fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of two-phase thermal hydraulics.
  • Programming experience in C#, FORTRAN, or PYTHON.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and apply analytical methods to solve problems.
  • Lead projects including evaluations and analyses of ATOs, ATWS, reactor heat balance, and thermal hydraulic analyses.
  • Perform plant thermal hydraulic evaluations in containment, HELB, Fire Safe Shutdown, Annulus Pressurization Loads, and RIPD analyses.
  • Perform plant thermal hydraulic evaluations and analyses in the area of BWR stability.
  • Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, and calculations.
  • Communicate and present complex technical issues to internal and external customers and recommend solutions.
  • Ensure work is performed with high quality in accordance with regulatory rules, customer requirements, and QA standards.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Quickly learn and apply analytical methods, procedures, and techniques to solve problems
  • Lead a variety of projects including technical evaluations and analyses in the area of Anticipated Operational Occurrences, Anticipated Transients without Scram, Reactor Heat Balance, and Thermal Hydraulic Fuel Channel Analyses
  • Perform plant thermal hydraulic evaluations and analyses in the areas of Containment, HELB, Fire Safe Shutdown, Annulus Pressurization Loads, and RIPD analyses
  • Perform plant thermal hydraulic evaluations and analyses in the areas of BWR stability
  • Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, and calculations
  • Prepare, communicate, and present complex technical issues to internal and external customers and recommend solutions
  • Ensure work is performed with high quality in accordance with regulatory rules and regulations, customer requirements, and business quality assurance standards
Requirements
  • B.S. Degree in Engineering Discipline (Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or similar)
  • At least 2 years of relevant nuclear experience or Master's degree in engineering
  • Eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled information
  • Experience with BWR core simulation and thermal-hydraulic systems codes
  • Background in power plant or process plant thermal hydraulics
  • Knowledge of the fundamental principles of nuclear engineering such as nuclear physics, thermal hydraulics, and mechanical design, as applied to BWR
  • Knowledge of two-phase thermal hydraulic analysis techniques
  • Programming experience such as C#, FORTRAN, or PYTHON
