Job summary

Southwire Company in Florence, AL is seeking a design engineer to plan and optimize manufacturing facilities and related structures to improve production efficiency and resource utilization.

The role analyzes facility specifications, recommends improvements, and supports the implementation of processes, tooling, and workflows while ensuring safety and compliance. You will collaborate with production, quality, and maintenance teams to resolve manufacturing challenges and drive performance.

Responsibilities

• Acquires knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and industry best practices to support production efficiency and quality improvement.
• Advises on less complex process modifications and manufacturing improvements under the guidance of senior engineers or supervisors.
• Analyzes basic production data to identify trends, inefficiencies, or opportunities for process enhancements.
• Applies engineering principles to assist in designing and improving manufacturing workflows, tooling, and process optimization.
• Carries out testing and validation activities for new processes or modifications, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
• Communicates effectively with cross-functional teams, including production, quality, and maintenance, to resolve manufacturing-related issues.
• Coordinates with suppliers and vendors to support sourcing, procurement, and evaluation of manufacturing materials and components.
• Escalates production challenges or engineering concerns to senior team members or management for resolution.
