We seek a mechanical engineer to own design and engineering for new products, coordinate with project teams, and ensure compliance across the lifecycle.

The role emphasizes hands-on design, CAD modeling, prototyping, BOM creation, and coordinating certifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
• 2-4 years of mechanical design experience.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and CAD applications, including simulations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.

Responsibilities

• Prepare mechanical designs for tools, equipment, and material handling solutions.
• Create drawings, models, and 3D-printed prototypes for assigned products.
• Create BOMs and costed BOMs.
• Own engineering of assigned products to meet industry codes and standards.
• Lead design validation testing and coordinate third-party certifications.
• Coordinate with operations to ensure manufacturability and stage gate processes.
• Develop certification plans and coordinate testing with Product Compliance Manager.
• Stay updated on engineering trends to drive new product development.

Job Summary

Southwire’s Electrical Products (EP) division is responsible for the strategic growth of various lines of electrical equipment, lifting and material handling equipment, and electrical products and components. EP is looking for an experienced mechanical engineer to take engineering responsibility for new product development and engineering support of products released to the field. This experienced individual will interface directly with project management, product managers, and operations on new products, engineering changes, and compliance requirements for products throughout their lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare mechanical designs for various types of tools, equipment, and material handling & storage solutions.
• Ability to create all drawings, models and 3D printed models for assigned products
• Create BOMs and Costed BOMs
• Engineering ownership of assigned products to ensure they are designed to meet all industry codes and standards to include
• Ensure all engineering processes and protocols are followed for all assigned design projects to include FEA, DVP&R, DFMEA, design reviews, FAIRs, ECR, QCPs and PRAPs.
• Create design specifications per Program Manager and Project Manager requests.
• Work closely with Project Management to get assigned projects through the stage gate approval process.
• Create prototypes for testing and evaluation
• Coordinate engineering and PRAP builds with operations engineer and operations manager.
• Develop certification plans for products and coordinate actual third-party certification units for testing in conjunction with Product Compliance Manager
• Work with operations engineering to ensure manufacturability of assigned products
• Lead design validation testing for assigned products and projects
• Understand and remain current on latest engineering and product trends to ensure continued product development to the latest industry demand.

Required Education & Experience

• Minimum Education Level: Bachelor's Degree
• Specialized Degree: Mechanical Engineering or engineering related field.
• Years of Experience: 2-4 years
• Field of Expertise: Mechanical Engineering or engineering related field.
• 4+ years of mechanical and/or machinery design
• Proficiency in Solidworks and other CAD applications to include simulations
• Proficiency in Microsoft applications including Office, Project, Excel, PowerPoint

Preferred Education & Experience

• Years of Experience: 5-7 Years
• Field of Expertise: Mechanical Engineering or engineering related field.
• 2+ years of manufacturing or process engineering experience is preferred.
