Salary Range: $99,000.00 to $122,000.00

The Role

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

This position is intended for the Robotics and Automation group in Department E66. The incumbent will be responsible for implementing robotics and automation projects in areas within the shipyard. This position regularly communicates with Engineers/Designers across Departments, Waterfront) via email, phone, and in person meetings and utilizes various robotics software and tools.

Must Have
  • Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
  • Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
  • Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have
  • + Manufacturing and Systems Engineering experience in an industrial or shipbuilding manufacturing environment, specifically with shipbuilding manufacturing shops and experience with project management.
  • + Familiarity with major industrial 6 axis robotic systems (ABB, Fanuc) and collaborative robotics (Cobots).
  • + Familiarity with process automation controllers (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Phoenix Contact), and HMI controllers.
  • + Experience developing robotic and automation solutions.
  • + Experience deploying robots in a production environment.
  • + Familiarity with NNS manufacturing and production processes.

Candidates without preferred qualifications who are eager to learn will be considered.
