Job summary

Oatey seeks a Manufacturing Engineer-Automation in Shakopee, Minnesota to lead automation projects, design automated work cells, select components and write control software. You will collaborate with design and manufacturing engineering teams to advance manufacturing technologies.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in Engineering, 3+ years in operations, strong PLC/servo/robotics knowledge, and proficiency with Allen-Bradley and SolidWorks; Lean/ISO9001 exposure is a plus.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering discipline or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in operations/manufacturing environment.
  • Fundamental knowledge of control and electrical system design.
  • Thorough understanding of PLC control, ladder logic, servo control, and robotics.
  • Lean/ISO9001 knowledge or exposure.
  • Proficiency in manual machining; SolidWorks proficiency preferred; Allen-Bradley proficiency preferred.
  • Conceptual understanding of CNC machining preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build automated work cells including concept development, detailed mechanical and electrical design, component selection and control software programming.
  • Analyze machining and assembly cycle times to provide continuous improvement to reduce cost, improve quality and on-time delivery.
  • Develop cost effective processes and procedures for the manufacture of parts and assemblies in conformance with established specifications and customer requirements in conjunction with production personnel.
  • Designate, modify and/or make recommendations for the procurement of equipment necessary to produce parts and/or assemblies.
  • Project management for deployment of complex automated systems; develops manufacturing cost estimates to support quoting activities; sourcing of the shelf automated solutions.
  • Develop and maintain clear and accurate documentation of automation equipment or processes including CAD drawings for cutting tools, jigs, and fixtures; standard work instructions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and perform complex system tests; deployment to the production floor and operator training on machine procedures.
