Job description

  • Linux/Unix System Administration: Install, configure, and maintain Linux/Unix operating systems (RHEL, Ubuntu, Oracle Linux) for production and non-production environments.
  • Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Investigate and resolve complex technical issues across hardware, virtualized platforms, and Linux/Unix servers, ensuring timely resolutions.
  • Virtualization and Containers: Manage and maintain virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere, KVM) and container solutions (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) for application hosting.
  • Storage Management: Administer and monitor storage environments, including Dell EMC PowerStore, Unity, and similar systems, ensuring data availability and performance.
  • Automation and Scripting: Develop and maintain scripts and workflows for system management and task automation using Ansible, Bash, and Python.
  • Monitoring and Health Checks: Utilize monitoring tools (e.g., PRTG, Zabbix, Nagios) to perform proactive system monitoring, identify bottlenecks, and recommend solutions.
  • Security Compliance: Ensure compliance with security standards through system hardening, regular vulnerability assessments, patch management, and access controls.
  • Backup and Disaster Recovery: Implement and maintain backup solutions (e.g., Veeam, Dell EMC Networker) and participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reports.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams (e.g., IT support, network, and application teams) and external vendors to address technical challenges and ensure seamless operations.
Qualifications

NUMBER OF DIRECT REPORTS AND INTERACTIONS:

Reports to: Senior Manager, Data Center Operations

Frequent Interactions with:

  • Internal Stakeholders: IT Support, Network Teams, Security, Application Teams
  • External Stakeholders: Technology Vendors (e.g., Dell-EMC, Oracle, Red Hat)

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 2–3 years of experience in Linux/Unix system administration in a data center or enterprise environment.
  • Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM, Proxmax) and storage platforms (e.g., Dell EMC).
  • Practical experience with automation tools (e.g., Ansible) and scripting (e.g., Bash, Python).

KEY SKILLS:

  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities in Linux/Unix systems.
  • Proficiency in system automation and scripting.
  • Knowledge of enterprise storage and virtualization solutions.
  • Familiarity with IT security practices and standards.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.
