Engineer IV – $8,061 to $9,232 per month (EN 24, Step D to I)

Engineer V – $8,706 to $9,971 per month (EN-26, Step D to I)

Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.

Duties Summary
  • Engineer IV performs difficult and complex professional engineering work in planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of specialized projects; and conducts research, development, or other work to improve technical precedents.
  • Engineer V supervises planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of major and complex projects, works independently on advanced projects involving critical or unprecedented elements, and provides technical guidance on critical problems.
  • Engineers at the V level perform work with many complex features due to breadth, diversity, or intensity of assignments; provide staff advisory services; and review work prepared by other professional engineers or contract firms.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
  • Legal authorization to work: Citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
  • Professional Engineer license: Must possess a valid State of Hawaii PE license at the time of application.
  • Basic education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited four‑year college or university.
  • Engineering experience: Three years for Level IV; four years for Level V, with at least one year at the next lower level.
  • Supervisory aptitude: For Level V, must possess supervisory aptitude as described in the qualification requirements.
  • Driver’s license: Some positions may require a valid driver’s license.
  • Physical ability: Some positions require the ability to lift and carry items of various weights with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Security clearance (SIDA and TWIC): Eligible employees must undergo federal criminal history record checks; applicants bear the cost.
