Job summary

Shure in the United States is hiring a Mechanical Engineer II to design, prototype, test, and refine innovative audio hardware. You will contribute to the full product development lifecycle within cross-functional teams, delivering robust, manufacturable solutions and strong documentation.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, 3–5 years of design experience, and proficiency with Siemens NX.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with mechanical design, layout, testing, and evaluation of audio products and systems.
  • Create fully defined 3D models and 2D documentation using CAD software (Siemens NX).
  • Validate designs via tolerance analysis, GD&T, FEA, DFM, and DFA; use CAE tools as needed.
  • Produce manufacturable component designs for injection molding, die casting, machining, and sheet metal forming.
  • Fabricate design prototypes using 3D printing or in-house model shop.
  • Design, test, and evaluate experiments to validate simulations with empirical results.
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams; prepare mechanical design reviews.
  • Support production/manufacturing via the engineering change process.
  • Assist with feasibility studies and testing of new or modified designs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Overview

Join a team that helps bring world-class audio products to life. As an Engineer II, Mechanical, you will design, prototype, test, and refine innovative hardware solutions used by customers around the globe. You will play a key role in the design, development, testing, and documentation of innovative audio products and systems. Working as part of cross-functional engineering teams, this position contributes to the full product development lifecycle, translating concepts into robust, manufacturable solutions. The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical design fundamentals with hands-on problem solving, utilizing advanced CAD tools, simulation methods, and validation techniques to deliver high-quality products that meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements.

This position will be hybrid based out of our Niles, IL HQ.


Responsibilities


  • Assists with higher level Mechanical Engineers and as needed, leads with developing mechanical design, layout, testing, and evaluation of audio products and systems utilizing sound mechanical design fundamentals that meet Company standards.

  • Creates fully defined 3D models and associated 2D documentation using CAD software (Siemens NX).

  • Assists with validating designs by testing and utilizing various techniques including tolerance analysis, GD&T, FEA, DFM, and DFA, and occasionally CAE tools.

  • Produces component designs that can be manufactured using established processes such as injection molding, die casting, machining, and sheet metal forming; interacts with in-house Tooling Engineers and external suppliers as needed.

  • Helps fabricate design prototypes using appropriate methods such as 3D Printing, in-house model shop, etc.

  • Assists with the design, performance and evaluation of experiments to solve engineering problems, and to validate simulation (e.g., FloTHERM thermal analysis and Abaqus FEA) with empirical results.

  • Will be an active member of cross-functional project teams that are responsible for developing new products; this will include preparing and conducting mechanical design reviews and peer reviews.

  • Supports ongoing production/manufacturing via the engineering change process, as needed.

  • May assist with feasibility studies and testing on new and / or modified designs to resolve engineering problems.

  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience with a strong working knowledge of Mechanical Engineering and Design principles.

  • Possess an eagerness to learn mechanical design fundamentals and a passion to apply them to develop world-class audio products.

  • Experience working in a formal product development process with design reviews and phase gates is preferred. An understanding of wireless and/or audio product development is also highly desired.

  • Experience with 3D CAD software. Knowledge of Siemens NX is preferred.

  • Able to apply technical concepts and company policies/procedures to work on problems/issues of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and cross functional team environment (including team members in Mexico and China), soliciting guidance and input from team members when needed to complete assignments.

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to travel internationally is required.

PAY TRANSPARENCY

The base salary for this position ranges from $82,300 to $131,700. All positions also include an award-winning benefits package.
