Job description

Schneider Electric, a leading provider of energy management and automation solutions, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Control System Design Engineer to join our Data Centre Systems (DCS) R&D. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, and integration of 3-phase UPS specifically for data centre applications.

Responsibilities and Requirements
  • Hands on experience with control of power electronics (such as PWM strategies for 3-phase inverters, sampling of PWM-operated converters and control loops of 3-phase converters such as current control, DC voltage control, and active or reactive power control).
  • Analysing and optimizing the performance of power converters to ensure stability, reliability, and high efficiency.
  • Modelling and simulation of converters, and selection of optimal control strategy for each converter. Understand the key milestones in a project plan and ensuring the technical risks are understood and mitigated in accordance with the plan.
  • Support a standard product methodology mindset, seek opportunities to re-use solutions, improve quality and reliability whilst reducing the delivery timeline.
  • Lead the development and implementation of digital closed loop and control system for new UPS platforms.
  • Play a key role in engineering design reviews and technical leadership, identifying potential project risks and technical weaknesses and proposing safe, reliable, and compliant solutions.
  • Use fast prototyping and lab mock-ups to close learning loops and achieve results quickly.
  • Keen attention to detail and a methodical approach to design and troubleshooting.
  • Stay updated on the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies related to UPS control.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware and firmware designers and system architects) to ensure seamless integration of power electronics systems.
  • Knowledge and experience within Grid Forming Control is plus.
  • Document design specifications, test procedures, and technical reports.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master or PhD degree in Control Systems, or Power Electronics.
  • 5 to 8 years of experience in implementing digital control systems (using DSP and FPGA) for three-phase high power UPS and power converters.
  • Experience in implementing adaptive control, optimal control, model predictive control based on industry standards.
  • Proficient and hands-on experience simulating, testing, and validating control algorithms in simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot intricate control system challenges.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, or similar is must.
