Job Overview

We are seeking talented Engineers to support critical naval engineering projects in San Diego. This role includes 3D modeling, drafting, testing, and technical support to enhance the functionality and efficiency of Navy Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (AC&R) systems and equipment. Engineers will work closely with teams to provide innovative solutions for the installation, testing, and maintenance of critical ship systems and contribute to the operational readiness of the U.S. Navy.

Essential duties & responsibilities
  • Technical authority for all Navy AC Plant, Modular Refrigeration Units (MRU), legacy refrigeration systems, and associated equipment on surface ships, submarines, and aircraft carriers.
  • Support the design, modeling, analysis, and testing of all AC&R systems, subsystems, equipment, and components.
  • Develop Ship Change Documents (SCD) and ShipAlts to introduce technical improvements to existing AC&R systems in the fleet.
  • Provide support throughout the life cycle of all AC&R equipment, including design, installation, testing, logistics, technical refresh, and obsolescence management.
  • Provide test facility support to build/refresh and test AC&R systems and equipment.
  • Support Mission Readiness Panel requirements for testing at the Auxiliary Systems test facility.
  • Perform equipment qualification testing (EQT) by developing, updating, and reviewing test procedures, witnessing tests, and reviewing test reports and waiver/deviation documentation.
  • Support Non‑destructive testing (NDT) of heat exchanger tubes in condensers and evaporators.
  • Execute pressure tests and System Operational and Verification Tests (SOVT) shipboard.
  • Provide engineering and technical support for ship modernization programs, including new technologies and advanced control systems.
  • Conduct engineering surveys and drawing reviews to determine if system/equipment upgrades are required and feasible.
  • Assist the obsolescence program with design, testing, and evaluation of components for proper form, fit, function, and operation.
  • Review and analyze drawings to support material requirements and test plan/procedure development.
  • Respond to and resolve Integrated Logistics System (ILS) technical feedbacks and technical manual deficiency reports through systems like Remedy and Navy 311.
  • Identify technical issues and develop cost‑effective solutions to improve system life‑cycle management.
  • Perform additional duties outside of standard responsibilities as needed to support production and project completion.
Requirements
  • Must possess a REAL ID or U.S. Passport.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 3 years of professional engineering experience focused on Navy AC&R systems (design, repair, installation, modification, operation, maintenance, and testing).
  • Strong understanding of Navy ship systems, including air conditioning, refrigeration, fluid systems, pumps, heat exchangers, actuators, and related equipment.
  • Experience with control systems and variable speed/frequency drives (VSD/VFD).
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in engineering and 3D modeling tools.
  • Ability to support and execute technical testing and produce detailed reports.
  • Team‑oriented with strong problem‑solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret ship installation drawings, installation specifications, and NAVSEA Standard Items.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a SECRET clearance.
  • Travel up to 25 % may be required within and outside the continental United States.
  • U.S. citizens or otherwise legally authorized to access export‑controlled information.
Physical Requirements
  • Exposure to open‑air environments, including noisy, hot, and cold conditions.
  • Required to visit project sites on ships and rigs, both onshore and offshore.
  • Must wear various PPE (hearing, eye, head, hand protection) as required.
  • Site visits may involve standing on various surfaces and angles, bending, crouching, and climbing over obstructions.
  • Exposure to sound levels exceeding 100 decibels.
  • Must possess sufficient visual acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and night vision to inspect marine components and systems.
  • May work in confined spaces with limited ventilation.
  • Requires prolonged periods of sedentary work, including sitting and/or standing.
  • May be required to operate machinery, power tools, and/or heavy equipment.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively to exchange and comprehend information.
  • Frequent exposure to extreme weather (high heat and extreme cold).
  • Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs. or more, depending on task requirements.
  • Must be physically able to ride ships at sea for extended periods, withstanding ship motion and working in various sea conditions.
