Job Description
We are seeking talented engineers to support critical naval engineering projects focused on Navy Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (AC&R) systems and equipment. The role includes 3D modeling, drafting, testing, and technical support to enhance the functionality and efficiency of ship systems.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide technical authority for Navy AC Plant, Modular Refrigeration Units (MRU), legacy refrigeration systems, and associated equipment across ships, submarines, and aircraft carriers.
- Support design, modeling, analysis, and testing of all AC&R systems, subsystems, equipment, and components.
- Develop Ship Change Documents (SCD) and ShipAlts to input technical improvements into the fleet.
- Support life‑cycle activities: design, installation, testing, logistics, technical refresh, and obsolescence.
- Provide test facility support for building, refreshing, and testing AC&R systems.
- Support Mission Readiness Panel testing at the Auxiliary Systems test facility.
- Perform equipment qualification testing (EQT), develop and review test procedures, witness tests, and review reports.
- Support non‑destructive testing (NDT) of heat‑exchanger tubes.
- Execute pressure tests and system operational verification tests (SOVT) on shipboard.
- Provide engineering support for ship modernization programs and advanced control systems.
- Conduct engineering surveys, drawing reviews, and assess upgrade feasibility.
- Support obsolescence program: design, test, evaluate components.
- Review and analyze drawings for material requirements and test plans.
- Respond to Integrated Logistics System (ILS) technical feedback and manual deficiency reports via Remedy and Navy 311.
- Identify technical issues and develop cost‑effective lifecycle solutions.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or related discipline.
- At least 3 years of professional engineering experience focused on Navy AC&R systems (design, repair, installation, modification, operation, maintenance, testing).
- Strong understanding of Navy ship HVAC, refrigeration, fluid systems, pumps, heat exchangers, actuators, and associated equipment.
- Experience with control systems and variable‑speed drives (VSD/VFD).
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems.
- Proficiency in engineering and 3D modeling tools.
- Ability to conduct technical testing and develop detailed reports.
- Team‑oriented with strong problem‑solving and communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret ship installation drawings, installation specifications, and NAVSEA Standard Items.
- Must have or be able to obtain a SECRET clearance.
- Travel up to 25% within and outside the continental U.S. may be required.
- Position open to U.S. citizens only due to export control regulations.
Physical Requirements
- Exposure to open‑air environments, noisy, hot, and cold conditions.
- Visiting project sites aboard ships, rigs, onshore and offshore.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Work involving standing, bending, crouching, climbing, and confined spaces.
- Exposure to sound levels >100 dB.
- Visual acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, night vision requirements.
- Operation of machinery exceeding 20 lbs.
- Effective communication in English.
- Frequent exposure to extreme weather conditions.
