KellyMitchell Group is seeking an Engineer II for a utility client in San Clemente, CA. This contract role supports electric distribution reliability by evaluating circuits with high SAIDI/CAIDI, identifying improvement opportunities, and developing projects to enhance distribution service reliability.

The position requires ABET-accredited engineering education, 1.5+ years of engineering experience, and knowledge of electrical distribution systems.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job Summary

Our client, a leading utility provider, is seeking an Engineer II to join their team. This position will support electric distribution reliability initiatives by evaluating circuits with high SAIDI/CAIDI performance, identifying opportunities for improvement, and developing engineering projects designed to enhance distribution service reliability.

Contract Details

• Contract position through 10/03/2028


• Location: San Clemente, CA


• Work Arrangement: Hybrid


• Two openings available


• Two-round, panel-style interview process


• Supplier-provided laptop required

Core Responsibilities

• Evaluate high SAIDI/CAIDI distribution circuits to identify reliability concerns and improvement opportunities


• Develop and present engineering project proposals to the reliability team


• Perform power system studies, engineering calculations, technical analysis, and design activities supporting electric distribution systems


• Prepare engineering designs, specifications, standards, studies, cost estimates, and technical recommendations


• Coordinate small engineering projects, including scope development, scheduling, budgeting, permitting, procurement, and implementation activities


• Work with internal engineering teams, contractors, consultants, and other departments to successfully execute assigned projects


• Interpret and apply company standards, regulatory requirements, industry codes, and engineering procedures

Required Skills/Experience (Must‑Haves)

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program


• 1.5+ years of progressively responsible engineering experience


• Knowledge of electrical distribution systems and electric utility engineering principles


• Experience or working knowledge of power system studies and analysis


• Ability to analyze engineering data, perform calculations, and develop technically sound recommendations


• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex electrical concepts clearly to technical and non‑technical stakeholders


• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, organizational, and project coordination skills

Preferred Skills/Experience (Nice‑to‑Haves)

• Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification or progress toward professional engineering credentials


• Experience within an electric utility, distribution engineering, or power systems environment


• Experience evaluating distribution reliability metrics such as SAIDI and CAIDI


• Experience developing reliability improvement, system performance, or distribution upgrade projects
  
• Familiarity with utility engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable state and federal codes


• Experience preparing cost estimates, project scopes, schedules, and technical presentations


• Experience coordinating with contractors, consultants, engineering teams, and cross‑functional stakeholders

Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range: The approximate pay range for this position is between $35.00 and $50.00. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and location. We comply with local wage minimums.
