Job summary

RK&K is seeking an Engineer to join our Water Resources team in Nashville, TN. You will support a diversified portfolio of DOT and municipal projects and collaborate with a multidisciplinary group across the firm.

Responsibilities include modeling riverine systems, H&H analyses, and producing drainage reports using Civil3D, MicroStation/ORD, and GIS. The ideal candidate has 0–2 years of water resources experience and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or related engineering field.
  • 0–2 years of experience in water resources engineering.
  • Coursework in Fluid Mechanics, Water Resources Engineering, or Urban Hydraulics & Hydrology.
  • Knowledge of hydrologic/hydraulic methods and analysis tools.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams).
  • Strong written and verbal communication and teamwork skills.

  • Deliver water resources solutions for public/private projects.
  • Support scope, schedule, and budget as directed by Project Manager.
  • Provide quality client service and timely deliverables.
  • Grow experience and take on lead tasks over time.
  • Collaborate with design team members and engineers.
  • Assist with documentation, modeling, and due diligence for pursuits.
  • Model riverine systems and watersheds; perform H&H analyses.
  • Produce drainage reports and hydraulic memoranda.
  • Prepare civil designs using Civil3D, MicroStation/ORD, GeoPak, and GIS.

Job description

RK&K is currently hiring a motivated Engineer to join our growing Water Resources team in Nashville, TN. This is an excellent opportunity for you to take the next step in your career. On our Water Resources team, you will support multiple DOT and Municipal projects, working alongside a multidisciplinary team of experienced professionals throughout our entire company.

Types of water resources projects include, but are not limited to:
  • Riverine system hydraulics & hydrology (H&H)
  • Floodplain analysis, mapping, and flood mitigation
  • Scour modeling
  • Watershed planning and studies
  • Roadway topline drainage system analysis and design
  • Stormwater management system design
  • Erosion and sediment control
  • Stream restoration analysis and design
  • Green infrastructure design
Essential Functions
  • Deliver world class solutions to our existing portfolio of public/private sector water resources customers
  • Proactively deliver a wide range of water resource projects in accordance with the scope, schedule, and budget set by the Project Manager
  • Provide excellent client services with a focus on quality and timeliness
  • Proactively grow in experience to execute and lead tasks
  • Report to a Senior Project Manager; meet and work directly with other design team members, project engineers, design technicians, and drafters
  • Provide office and site visit support for assigned and prospective projects
  • Assist with the development of necessary documentation and preliminary modeling, analysis, and due diligence in support of project pursuits
  • Perform modeling of riverine systems and watersheds / storm sewer networks
  • Perform H&H analysis of stormwater control BMPs and produce engineering drawings with SCMs for culverts, bridges, and dams
  • Prepare clear and concise drainage reports and hydraulic memoranda documenting analysis approach, findings, and recommendations
  • Assist with civil engineering plans /deliverable development using Autodesk Civil3D, MicroStation/ORD, GeoPak, and GIS
Required Skills and Experience
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or related engineering degree
  • Zero (0) - Two (2) years of experience in water resources engineering
  • Coursework in Fluid Mechanics, Water Resources Engineering, and/or Urban Hydraulics and Hydrology
  • Knowledge of commonly used hydrologic and hydraulic computational methodologies and analysis tools/trends
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, Teams)
  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills required
  • Ability to work both collaboratively/in a team environment and independently
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on quality
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Experience with CAD, MicroStation/ORD, ArcPro and other ESRI software
  • Floodplain analysis utilizing HEC-RAS (1D) software
  • Hydrologic analysis utilizing HEC-HMS software
  • Project experience related to hydraulic analysis of riverine systems and culvert/bridge stream crossings
  • Experience performing field work in support of various water resources projects
  • 2-dimensional stream system modeling and analysis utilizing either HEC-RAS 2D or SMS w/ SRH-2D software packages
  • Watershed / Drainage Basin modeling and analysis utilizing either EPA SWMM or PCSWMM software packages
  • Engineer in Training (EIT)
