Job summary

RK&K is seeking a motivated Engineer to join our Water Resources team in Nashville, TN. You will support DOT and municipal projects, delivering hydraulic analyses, stormwater design, and drainage reports with a multidisciplinary team.

Candidates should have a bachelor’s in civil/environmental engineering, 2–4 years of water resources experience, and an EIT. Proficiency in CAD/MicroStation, HEC-RAS, ArcGIS, and FEMA coordination is preferred. Hybrid work option available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering required.
  • 2–4 years of water resources engineering experience.
  • Experience with CAD, MicroStation/ORD, ArcPro and ESRI GIS software.
  • HEC-RAS (1D) and floodplain analysis knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver water resources projects for public and private sector clients.
  • Support project scope, schedule, and budget under a Project Manager.
  • Prepare drainage reports and hydraulic memoranda.
  • Develop civil design documents using Civil3D, MicroStation/ORD and GIS.
  • Coordinate with design team, clients, and inspectors.

Job description

RK&K is currently hiring a motivated Engineer to join our growing Water Resources team in Nashville, TN. This is an excellent opportunity for you to take the next step in your career. On our Water Resources team, you will bring your experience to support multiple DOT and Municipal projects, working alongside a multidisciplinary team of experienced professionals throughout our entire company.

Types of water resources projects include, but are not limited to:
  • Riverine system hydraulics & hydrology (H&H)
  • Floodplain analysis, mapping, and flood mitigation
  • Scour modeling
  • Watershed planning and studies
  • Roadway topline drainage system analysis and design
  • Stormwater management system design
  • Erosion and sediment control
  • Stream restoration analysis and design
  • Green infrastructure design
Essential Functions
  • Deliver world class solutions to our existing portfolio of public/private sector water resources customers
  • Proactively deliver a wide range of water resource projects in accordance with the scope, schedule, and budget set by the Project Manager
  • Provide excellent client services with a focus on quality and timeliness
  • Assist with leadership of project tasks
  • Report to a Senior Project Manager; meet and work directly with other design team members, project engineers, design technicians, drafters, surveyors, contractors, and inspectors
  • Provide office and site visit support for assigned and prospective projects
  • Develop necessary documentation and preliminary modeling, analysis, and due diligence in support of project pursuits
  • Perform modeling of complex riverine systems and existing watersheds/storm sewer networks, and analyze potential improvement alternatives
  • Perform H&H design of stormwater control BMPs and produce engineering drawings with SCMs for culverts, bridges, and dams
  • Prepare clear and concise drainage reports and hydraulic memoranda documenting analysis approach, findings, and recommendations
  • Develop civil engineering plans and associated deliverables using Autodesk Civil3D, MicroStation/ORD, GeoPak, and GIS
  • Participate in client meetings and related coordination for ongoing projects as well as project pursuits
  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience
Required Skills and Experience
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or related engineering degree
  • Two (2) - Four (4) years of experience in water resources engineering
  • Experience with CAD, MicroStation/ORD, ArcPro and other ESRI software
  • Floodplain analysis utilizing HEC-RAS (1D) software
  • Strong knowledge of commonly used hydrologic and hydraulic computational methodologies and analysis tools/trends
  • Project experience related to hydraulic analysis of riverine systems and culvert/bridge stream crossings
  • Working familiarity with FEMA procedures, regulations, and coordination, including map revisions, no-rise certifications, etc.
  • Experience performing field work in support of various water resources projects
  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication, and presentation skills required
  • Ability to work both collaboratively/independently, with a strong attention to detail and focus on quality
  • Candidate should be capable of working on and coordinating simultaneous tasks.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT)
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Analysis and design of closed storm sewer systems utilizing ORD Drainage software package
  • 2-dimensional stream system modeling and analysis utilizing either HEC-RAS 2D or SMS w/ SRH-2D software packages
  • Hydrologic analysis utilizing HEC-HMS software
  • Watershed / Drainage Basin modeling and analysis utilizing either EPA SWMM or PCSWMM software packages
