Job summary

RK&K is seeking an Engineer to join our Water Resources team in Fairfax, VA. You will support multiple DOT and Municipal projects, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team across the company.

The role focuses on hydraulic and hydrology analysis, modeling, reports, and design using AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStation, ORD, and GIS. Fresh graduates welcome with 0-2 years of experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Biological Systems Engineering.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams).
  • Coursework in Fluid Mechanics, Water Resources Engineering, and/or Urban Hydraulics and Hydrology.
  • 0–2 years of water resources engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic methods and tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver world class solutions to our existing portfolio of public/private sector water resources customers.
  • Proactively deliver a wide range of water resource projects in accordance with the scope, schedule, and budget set by the Project Manager.
  • Provide excellent client services with a focus on quality and timeliness.
  • Report to a Senior Project Manager; work with design team members, project engineers, drafters, surveyors, contractors, inspectors, public agency officials, and clients.
  • Provide office and site visit support for assigned and prospective projects.
  • Assist with documentation, preliminary modeling, analysis, and due diligence in support of project pursuits.
  • Model complex riverine systems and watersheds / storm sewer networks; develop improvement alternatives.
  • Prepare drainage reports and hydraulic memoranda documenting analysis approach, findings, and recommendations.
  • Assist with civil engineering plans using AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStation, ORD, and GIS.
  • Proactively grow in experience to lead tasks.

RK&K is currently hiring an Engineer to join our growing Water Resources team inFairfax, VA. This is an excellent opportunity for you to take the next step in your career. On our Water Resources team, you will support multiple DOT and Municipal projects, working alongside a multidisciplinary team of experienced professionals throughout our entire company.

Types of water resources projects include, but are not limited to:
  • Floodplain analysis, mapping, and flood mitigation
  • Watershed planning and studies
  • Closed storm system analysis and open channel designs
  • Stormwater management facility design
  • Erosion and sediment control
Essential Functions
  • Deliver world class solutions to our existing portfolio of public/private sector water resources customers
  • Proactively deliver a wide range of water resource projects in accordance with the scope, schedule, and budget set by the Project Manager
  • Provide excellent client services with a focus on quality and timeliness
  • Report to a Senior Project Manager; meet and work directly with other design team members, project engineers, design technicians, drafters, surveyors, contractors, inspectors, public agency officials, and clients
  • Provide office and site visit support for assigned and prospective projects
  • Assist with the development of necessary documentation and preliminary modeling, analysis, and due diligence in support of project pursuits
  • Perform modeling of complex riverine systems and existing watersheds / storm sewer networks, and develop recommended improvement alternatives
  • Prepare clear and concise drainage reports and hydraulic memoranda documenting analysis approach, findings, and recommendations
  • Assist with civil engineering plans development using AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStation, ORD, and GIS.
  • Proactively grow in experience to lead tasks.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Biological Systems Engineering
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, Teams)
  • Coursework in Fluid Mechanics, Water Resources Engineering, and/or Urban Hydraulics and Hydrology
  • Zero (0) – Two (2) years of experience in water resources engineering
  • Knowledge of commonly used hydrologic and hydraulic computational methodologies and analysis tools/trends
  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills required
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work both collaboratively/in a team environment and independently
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Project experience related to hydraulic analysis of riverine systems and culvert/bridge stream crossings
  • Experience performing field work in support of various water resources projects
  • Experience with CAD, Microstation, ORD, ArcGIS and ESRI software
  • Floodplain analysis utilizing HEC-RAS (1D) software
  • Hydrologic analysis utilizing HEC-HMS software
