Job summary

Columbus Water & Power, Division of Water, seeks an entry-level professional engineer under general supervision to perform engineering tasks on small construction and maintenance projects. The role includes leading teams, reviewing plans, coordinating with city departments and agencies, inspecting projects, and preparing proposals.

Possession of a valid Ohio Professional Engineer certificate and a valid driver’s license are required. This position is full-time and located in Columbus, Ohio.

Qualifications

• Possession of a valid State of Ohio certificate as a registered Professional Engineer.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Acts as engineer-in-charge of small construction and/or maintenance projects.
• Assigns and evaluates work of professional and technical staff.
• Checks work accomplished by subordinates for quality and quantity by using pre-established standards and policies.
• Prepares preliminary and final plans and specifications for minor projects; reviews and performs studies or additional research to evaluate engineering solutions.
• Reviews and investigates requests and complaints received from the public; recommends corrective measures.
• Inspects engineering projects for conformance to plans and specifications.
• Serves as liaison to and communicates information with affected groups such as City departments, inspectors, contractors, developers, design consultants, utility companies, or other participants pertaining to specific engineering projects.
• Assists in the planning and preparation of proposals and specifications for major engineering projects.
• Stays abreast of current engineering principles.
• Operates a computer and mapping software to draw and review maps and plans.
• May do on-site investigations prior to a project.
• May represent the division at meetings with local, state, and federal agencies, regional planning and technical committees, commissioners, citizen groups, engineering groups, and other City departments.
• May direct or personally engage in field surveys; makes plan-in-hand inspections of ongoing projects.
