Job summary

RWE Americas, LLC in Tampa, FL is seeking an Engineer I to support mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection design for new buildings and renovations on design-build and performance contract projects. With supervision, you will work under the Manager/Engineer from conception through construction completion.

You will perform energy modeling, load calculations, prepare specifications, and conduct site visits while expanding knowledge of central plants and energy conservation measures.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate BS degree in mechanical or related engineering.
  • Engineer I requires 0 years of specific experience but must demonstrate related experience and aptitude.
  • Familiarity with LEED and green building design is preferred.
  • Experience in energy analysis to identify and develop energy conservation measures for PC and design build projects is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist design of mechanical, plumbing and fire protection for new/renovated buildings.
  • Support design-build projects for Owner’s facilities.
  • Document conditions, analyze costs, and generate reports.
  • Conduct code research and stay current with new technologies.
  • Prepare project specifications and supporting information.

Functional area: Engineering

Remuneration: Exempt

The Engineer is responsible for supporting the engineering development and design of mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection construction documents for new buildings and renovations in consulting design, design-build, and performance contract projects. With supervision, the Engineer will work under the direction of the Manager/Engineer from project conception through construction completion. Associated responsibilities include, but are not limited to, engineering design and drafting activities, specification writing support, cost estimating, limited field investigations and construction site visits, support for HVAC load calculations and modeling, hydraulic calculations, and coordination with others. Duties also include conducting site visits, supporting energy-savings calculations, and developing cost budgets and written descriptions of energy conservation measures.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the design of mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems for new and renovated building construction on consulting projects that will be constructed by the Owner’s contractors (traditional engineering consulting services).
  • Assist in the design and construction of mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems for building retrofit construction on design-build projects that will be constructed for the Owner.
  • Support the studies and analyses of mechanical and plumbing systems, documenting the system conditions, presenting cost-effective design solutions, and generating reports with recommendations.
  • Conduct code research in support of project development. Research and apply current technology and stay abreast of new and upcoming technologies.
  • Assist in the preparation of project specifications along with supporting information.
  • Perform/attend job site visits to verify and document existing construction conditions and to observe and document the contractor’s work.
  • Assist with the engineering criteria and selection of equipment.
  • Assist with select engineering calculations for equipment and systems sizing. Perform building cooling and heating load calculations and energy use using computer modeling programs such as HAP, Trace, Energy Gauge Summit, and ASHRAE Modified Bin Analysis.
  • Develop and use working knowledge of central plants, HVAC, chillers, boilers, air handlers, variable speed drives, motors, etc. for project development.
  • Assist with the energy audit walk-throughs of facilities to document existing conditions and identify retrofit opportunities for energy conservation.
Education:
  • Undergraduate (BS) degree in mechanical or related engineering.
Experience:
  • Engineer I requires 0 years of specific experience but must demonstrate related experience and the aptitude to quickly learn the requirements of the position.
  • Over 2 years of experience in mechanical design-build projects is preferred.
  • Familiarity with LEED and green building design is preferred.
  • Experience in energy analysis to identify and develop energy conservation measures for PC and design build projects is preferred.
Job Skills & Competencies:

  • Good leadership, verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Engineering, analytical and technical writing skills with attention to detail.
  • Skillful with computer software including word processing and spreadsheet analyses.
  • Building energy use modeling and simulation experience desirable (e.g. eQUEST, HAP, DOE2, Trane Trace, ASHRAE Modified Bin Analysis).
  • AutoCAD and REVIT experience required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is a hybrid office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWECE office and field locations (up to 30% of the time). The employee must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time.
